Guest JIMSTDI Posted September 23, 2003 Report Posted September 23, 2003 cant belive how small the glovebox is seems daft for how big the car is,our focus is a much smaller car and the glovebox is so much deeper seems fords made a muck up with the size, let alone giving a key... also lack of space trying to get the n/s headlight bulbs out,u need hands so small just to get into the space, let alone putting the cover back and trying to push the clip back on james Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted September 23, 2003 Report Posted September 23, 2003 Agreed, you cannot fit the Handbook in it! Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted September 23, 2003 Report Posted September 23, 2003 Seems to be a problem with many modern cars, especially MPVs and midi-MPV's; glovebox in my Scenic is also a joke. Reason for Gal and Scenic gloveboxes being so small is that the engine firewall is so close to the front of the dashboard. Better designers are needed to plan the interiors of modern cars - maybe most of them are ladies who just carry everything around in handbags so don't need that much storage space in their cars. Not trying to be sexist here, just stating the truth! One old test of door bins, for instance, used to be to see if they would take the Michelin "red book" of France. ..and who actaully leaves their manuals in the glove box anyway? I never have - always leave them at home in a boxfile which contains all car-related bits, such as all bills/receipts, service history, old MOT certificates etc. Quote
Sher Posted September 23, 2003 Report Posted September 23, 2003 Your all moaners!! Stacks of space for manuals in big pockets behind drivers and front passenger seats. What about those massive caverns below the two front seats. The door pockets can hold a 1.5 litrebottle of water/coke. Poss 2lites. What you people need is a real serious problem with your mota car, like we had in the past, then you wouldn't have time to invent things to make postings about!! How dar you blame that poor kind Mr Ford when you all know Mr VAG caused the problem. Anyway I have small hands for my size! I Can reach where others can't!! (PS Keep it clean boys) Quote
Guest JIMSTDI Posted September 23, 2003 Report Posted September 23, 2003 sher yr right sorry ill think of something else but back to the glovebox, its very small for a big car all the best james Quote
Guest fredt Posted September 24, 2003 Report Posted September 24, 2003 when gone i can't be reached! so don't bother trying ! Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted September 24, 2003 Report Posted September 24, 2003 Yes but the current Espace and its predecessor have a glovebox in the centre of the dash that is supposed to be large enough to take a briefcase. It's all to do with where the dashboard controls, wiring loom, heater matrix, radio gubbins etc are located (Espace has 2 heater matrices, one each side of dashboard rather than one in the centre). Also interesting to see on HonestJohn's column recently that Espace diesel engines suffer from a known problem due to crankshaft thrust washer which results in a new block being needed. Now I am REALLY glad that I didn't get one of them instead of a Galaxy! Quote
Guest EVSS Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 they also suffer major elecrical tantrums when water get into body control unit, located under carpet pass footwell. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 What the *$~@ is a "body control unit"? Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 Box of electronics that controls the central locking etc. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted September 29, 2003 Report Posted September 29, 2003 I'd call that an ECU rather than a body control unit! Also - I'm not so much complaining about the size of the glove box, just pointing out that it's not as big as I'd expect. And I see that the glovebox on the new Scenic is MUCH bigger than on the old one so Renault obviously listened to some complaints! Quote
Guest JIMSTDI Posted September 29, 2003 Report Posted September 29, 2003 i dont know about glovebox fords should of called it a niknak box james Quote

They are going to wriggle out of this one yet again it seems. Even though you can't get your manuals in, your wifes makeup, purse or handbag or those sweets you take on long journeys or even a box of tissues, that bottle of dash shine, that extra pair of sunglasses.... Wait for it!! Its a glove box mate!! its meant for putting your gloves in!! Quote
