There are several things you can do to ensure your CAT has a long and healthy life:

5. Never tow anything that is too heavy for your vehicle to cope with. For example, an overloaded caravan will actually push a car along when it travels downhill. This sends unburned fuel into the exhaust system and can cause the monolith to melt down.

 

 

This is not true as the Galaxy does not inject fuel on the overun.

Any Lambda controlled injection system (ie. all cars with cats) should regulate the fuel closely enough that there isn't any overrun fueling other than that needed to keep the engine running. Even my LPG system doesn't over fuel.

 

One other tip about a cat, if you've got a rattle that sound like baffles breaking up, check the heat shield, one jubilee clip later, everythings quiet.

 

Good tips though, especially the long grass
