The headrests changed around Feb 2001. When I bought my X-reg Gal, the garage also had a Y-reg one which had done slightly more miles. That one had the headrests with holes in them ,and the three-point centre belt on the middle seat whereas mine just has a lapstrap. I bought lower mileage, plus it was silver and the other one was black; wife and kids didn't like black - looked too much like a van with the dark tinted windows

It's worth remembering when ordering parts that those who have a version 2.1 (Solid headrests & Lapstrap) also have the smaller diameter brakes of the MK1.

On the subject of specification trivia, does anyone have a seatbelt warning light ? During a very bored moment (Mrs T doing a "quick" bit of shopping) I took to reading the owners manual which says I should have one, mind you it also says I should have a cruise control warning light which has been the subject of previous discussion and it seems to be a lucky dip as to who has or hasn't got one.

I have a seat belt warning light..not sure about a cruise control one.....

so when you mean version 2.1, does that mean there are two versions of the mk2??????

i have solid head rests and lapbelt...

Yes, when the Mark 2 was introduced (August 2000) it had the solid headrests, lapbelts and mk1 size brakes. There was then an upgrade (Feb 2001 says Ivor) which introduced the 3 point belt, holy headrests and larger diameter discs front and rear, version 2.2 if you like. There may be some other minor differences as well, I think the brake diiferences apply to the Bamma and Shazza as well. There was a post about this in the early days of the forum, and if IIRC it was due to a cockup by the manufacturer in not applying for type approval for the new parts (or something like that).

i must say that i would rather have a 3 point harness in the middle seat rather than a lapbelt.

so i have an early mk2....nice to know!!and smaller brakes!

There have been posts in the past regarding retro fitting a 3 point belt to the centre seat. It's not possible to fit a factory type installation, but belt manufacturer Securon was supposed to be working on a conversion kit which involved bolting a reel to the floor behihind the middle seat. I don't recall anyone on this site having used it though.

i think that i will look into it as the lap belt i feel is not secure enough.plus god forbid if my car was ever in an accident they can cause internal damage...that much i do know.going to do a search now...

OK..when i went on their website before i saw your linc, it stated that they do not deal with individual enquiries and that i have to contact a motor outlet for the set..it looks safe but then as it says on the linc....you are stuck with it on the floorbetween the two back seats.

3-point belt retracts into the roof when not in use - held by magnets. It has 2 buckles on it, one to fit into each side of the middle seat (and obviously, the upper mount is in the roof, on one of the crossbars that form part of the body structure)

umm checking the receipt from when we had our discs done it appears we have the larger discs + holey headrests and 3point lap belt - Y reg 2001. The combinations appear to be a bit pot luck :D ;)

You will find that nearly all cars have model year changes at least once or twice a year. We often have one every quarter although the average joe on the street may not see any difference. The disc size was probably implemented on a model year change (say 2000.5). Differing times of dealership vehicle registration may then have an efffect.

Maybe if you find out exactly what model year you have (not too sure how you do that though) failing that look at your vin's you maybe able to narrow down the vin range the change was made given the amount of people on here.

another classic post, starts off on side airbags and ends up with disc size and fitting centre point lapbelt to the floor. ;)

evolved rather than hijacked I think - although how you define the difference beats me ;) :D

Hello,

I'm looking into buying a newer galaxy and was wondering if anyone knows if the mk2 has side or curtain airbags for the second or third row passengers. If so, what year/spec were they introduced.

    Thanks for any help,

     Neil.
