Just got the galaxy back from the bodyshop, after 3 weeks of driving a Corsa

ABS light came on on the way home

Hooked up to Vag com and fault is shown as

Left Hand Side Wheel Speed Sensor

35-10 Intermittent

From Previous post i have gathered this is the ring around the CV joint which means CV joint has to be replaced. Car has done 105k so i think it may be a coincidence and nothing the bodyshop has done although it will be interesting to find out which side of the car (see question below) is at fault if its the side they have worked on i may contact them.

Anyway my question is VAG COM says its the left hand side but which side of the car does this refer to (Driver or Passenger Side). Also if anyone knows where to get the parts to rectify this at a reasonable cost please let me know.

Thanks in advance

Dave

from looking at your past posts! i see you have been in a minor alteration with another vehicle ;) from the looks of the pictures i would say they have possibly removed the wheel arch and arch liner for the repair?

i would check the condition of the wiring to the sensor in this wheel arch, the condition of the sensor and the sensor ring? in the process of doing the repair they may have distured either the plug in the loom or caked the sensor and sensor ring in debri? and while your there check the sensor ring is still there or at leat in one peice still?

Thanks for the reply I'll have a closer look at the weekend.

Does anyone know how easy the CV joint is to replace and the basic procedure????

It is easy enough. If the one I had ordered from Driveshaftparts.co.uk had arrived I would have done a photo article about it, however more than a month later, no CV joint that I have paid for!

Right then an update on this........

I have checked the Sensor ring and it appears to be fairly clean and in one piece. Would I be able to see by visual inspection see if this is what is at fault????

I am wondering whether its the sensor itself, I have removed it and cleaned it but the fault code is still there, also the fault code does not change if i unplug the sensor completely,

Tomorrow i may swap the LHS and RHS sensor to see if the problem "swaps sides"if it does not then its either the sensor ring or the wiring to the sensor.

Does anyone know how this sensor works, is it some sort of magnetic switch????.

TIS and elsawin say undo the allen bolt and remove sensor what it fails to mention is that the sensor will be unbelievably seized and will take you half an hour, half a can of WD40 and a torrent of swearwords before it will come out ^_^

I have measured the Impedance/resistance of the ABS sensor on both sides,

Working RHS sensor- 1.114K ohm

Suspect Sensor- (Open Circuit)

Therefore I am almost certain it is the sensor itself because if it was the sensor ring surely it would give some sort of resistance reading?????

here are the VAG COM logs as you can see it started as an intermittent problem and two days later gave up completely.

Mine started as intermittent and then went to totally failed, but my ABS ring can be spun round on the CV joint!

I got a refund to my Pay-Pal account from the company I tried to buy my new CV from and ordered one from another supplier for

after further investigation i can confirm it is the sensor that is faulty, i swapped the lhs and rhs sensors and the problem swapped sides on VAG COM

I have found that you can test the sensor with a multimeter and the resistance values should be roughly the same value (about 1.15k in my case)

I have ordered a new sensor from VW, not kept in stock so will be here tuesday. it seems they do not keep anything in stock these days,

when I had a vauxhall, most parts came straight off the shelf but ford and vw only seem to keep service items in stock.

anyway part ordered
