When I park up and switch the ignition off leaving the key in for a minute or two while waiting for the mrs the Gal just cranks over when I try to start it.

The alarm is an aftermarket Toad which as far as I know not an immobiliser.

The key is the type with a chip set in the handle and I have the red one and a normal one.

The only way I can start it again is to take the key out and walk away from it wait and come back, I dont think it is the alarm as I have walked away and not set it returned and it starts.

How does the key recognition work? How close does the key have to be for the system to recognize it?

Is it expensive to change?

This is a right pain in my backside as my mrs kicks it when it does it to her at the park and ride when she has our little un with her.

Any solutions other than padding my trousers please.

what model of toad alarm is it?

while your are trying to restart the car what does the led on the door do? this flashes in different ways to signify a fault code with the imobilser system/key!

you could also try looking at the relays in the fuse panel? there is one that crops up regularly in none starting topics! relay 20? 33? fuel pump/power relay?
