lydanial Posted June 5, 2006 Report Posted June 5, 2006 speaking to a friend today they mentioned that i might be wise to invest a few quid into a warranty.. has anyone bought an after market warrenty and if so what were they like?? who shall i choose?? what shall i make sure is covered? how much will it cost?? only bought the car 2 weeks ago so want to be safe for 2 years as my last car cost a fortune in march after having to replace the engine. thanks Quote
NikpV Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 Did look into this at the end of the three year Ford warranty but the ones I could find them excluded some importatnt bits and had a sliding scale of cover - the more miles covered the less they would pay towards parts (labour was covered). Quote
ahnea Posted June 6, 2006 Report Posted June 6, 2006 what do you think of this? the cover seems quite comprehensive and the price is right... has anyone used them? Quote

sanjsanj Posted June 7, 2006 Report Posted June 7, 2006 say you've bought a car and you dont get any warranty with it and say 6 months down the line the a/c compresser seizes, can you just get any of the above warranty deals and then claim from them? it sounds unrealistic to me but it just seems that you can buy the warranty whenever you like, is this true? carterc_ae Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 I used Warranty direct on my last car, and although I didn't need to make a claim, the cover offered was very comprehensive and the customer service was exceptional. For example, two months after the start of the policy my four year old car was written off in an accident. I called them to see what I could do with the remaining 11 months of cover (got 1 month thrown in free), and was told I could transfer it to another vehicle or get a pro rata refund. Several weeks later I received a cheque for about Quote

jkspoff Posted June 30, 2006 Report Posted June 30, 2006 I have just made a claim through my warranty company as recommended above, one thing to make sure of, is when you have your car serviced, make sure you keep the service invoice that shows the service was completed by a VAT registered garage or they will not pay out, in my case 2 services over 2 years. A stamp in the service book is not sufficient. Luckily I had these available, but I can imagine a lot of people throw these receipts/invoices away. The claim was made successfully, but they only paid out 90% of the parts value. Plus they will not pay for dealership repairs or dealer parts. So make sure if you want this then pay the premium for it when taking out the warranty. Above all else, read the small print before buying, as most of us including me very rarely do ! They also refused to pay (not surprisingly) regassing air con as a result of failed components, which I think should have been included. But it still saved me a grand in cash. Quote
