mustie Posted June 3, 2006 Author Report Posted June 3, 2006 Check for induction leaks. Thanks for your reply where would i look ?? Quote
Masked Marauder Posted June 3, 2006 Report Posted June 3, 2006 All the flexible pipes from the MAF back to the engine. You should be looking for cracks, splits and pipes that may have come off. The symptoms you describe are the same as you would get with quite a bit of unmetered air getting in or a cylinder to cylinder gasket breech. Quote
mustie Posted June 3, 2006 Author Report Posted June 3, 2006 forgot to add on the first post I phoned a friend and he told me to pull of the wires on the maf while the ignition was of this i did started the car again and went the same no diffrence Quote
mustie Posted June 3, 2006 Author Report Posted June 3, 2006 Had i good look around the maf for any pipes that are split etc etc and can't see nothing there is a pipe that runs from the middle of the air filter box to the top of the rocker cover which has been rubbing on the engine bracket but it has'nt broken thou started the engine reved it to 4000 rpm for 10-15 seconds then took foot of throttle pedal the engine started to hunt abit revs up n down to under 1000 rpm then back up to 2000rpm then it settled to 1000 rpm and cut out but it sounds very lumpy like its only running on 3 cylinders Quote
Masked Marauder Posted June 3, 2006 Report Posted June 3, 2006 Well the next thing I would do is a compression test, but then I have a compression tester so it is easy. Quote
NikpV Posted June 3, 2006 Report Posted June 3, 2006 but it sounds very lumpy like its only running on 3 cylinders could try taking off sparkplug leads on at a time - see if one makes no difference ? Quote
El Dingo Posted June 3, 2006 Report Posted June 3, 2006 Could this be a sticky idle stabilisation valve? ;) Quote
Masked Marauder Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 Hunting can be caused by it, but 5000 rpm to drive the car suggests something else is causing the car to run very lean. Quote
mustie Posted June 4, 2006 Author Report Posted June 4, 2006 If i got someone to come out to me with a vag-com could they tell me whats up ?? as phoned one this morning and he quoted me Quote
Masked Marauder Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 VAG-COM won't work with your engine chap. And it is less then Quote

seatkid Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 Strip and clean the idle control stabilisation valve and you could also do the throttle body. These being gunged up or worn and sticking will cause the problem. :13: Do a search.....need I say more? B) Quote
mustie Posted June 4, 2006 Author Report Posted June 4, 2006 UPDATE Just gotta mirror put it behind the engine and i found that a pipe ( quite a big pipe) had come off put it back on and hey presto all ok starts runs drives normal cheers for all your input guys n girls Quote
Masked Marauder Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 That would be an induction pipe then. See my first answer..... :P Quote
El Dingo Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 That would be an induction pipe then. See my first answer..... Yep, the one that feeds from the idle stabilisation valve? Quote
Masked Marauder Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 The Idle Stabilising valve pipe is not that big. In addition the valve can only give limited induction problems. The problem here was much bigger than just a faulty valve. Quote
