Guest AK1 Posted June 3, 2006 Report Posted June 3, 2006 Hi I have an electrical problem with my aircon - it only works intermittently. It has the simple dial controls (as opposed to full climate control) and the LED on the switch illuminates OK An aircon specialist (who replaced the pump) last year has checked the main system works Ok by putting 12V across the pump. They have suggested it might be an open throttle relay (but seemed a little unsure with electrical faults. Wandered into a Ford dealer who were unwilling to help without booking the car in and charging a min of Quote
Masked Marauder Posted June 3, 2006 Report Posted June 3, 2006 First step is to check the switch connector, it can work loose. What age is your car? You may want to put your vehicle model, age and engine type into your signature line so we can help you better. Quote
johnb80 Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 I had this situation on a Scorpio, switch the aircon on and it would work once - nice cold air until the compressor switched off (normal operation) and then it would never restart until the next day. I eventually traced the fault to a temperature sensor (sometimes called ice detector) on the evaporator unit. Less than a fiver for the new sensor but took almost a day for me to fit it (dash out). Masked Marauder Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 Some of the Galaxy range do not have an Ice Sensor, hance my request for more details. It could also be moisture in the system freezing inside the evaporator jet, but that is very unlikely. Quote

The LED stills works OK - could it still be a loose switch wire - presume you mean behind the manual dashbord control dials. Quote
NikpV Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 It appears you have a de-icing switch on the evaporator I would guess this performs the same operation as Johnb80's ice sensor - Remove passenger air bag, glove box and frame to access. Is the intermittent nature of the fault regular/predictable - in other words does it always work under some circumstances - you get my drift ? Quote

A little difficult to be sure seems to work quite often on start-up and then once the car has been driven hard It appears you have a de-icing switch on the evaporator I would guess this performs the same operation as Johnb80's ice sensor - Remove passenger air bag, glove box and frame to access. NikpV Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 Maybe - if you post a rough location someone near would read your codes with a vag-com for the price of a pint :D Quote
