buford_t_justice Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 The Ford Direct Warranty on my Galaxy is due to expire in a couple of months. It was in this week (now twice in the last 4 weeks) for a new brake switch. (after suffering the old Engine Workshop message and flashing glow plug). The first visit this month was for a replacement EGR. However back to the point of this post............ I managed to persuade the Ford Mechanic to replace the MAF sensor by complaining about flat spots whilst under acceleration. My personal reason for getting this done was no other than it's bound to fail at some time so why not try and get them to change it under warranty. WOW, what a difference. I wasn't expecting anything to be different but the change is very noticeable. The thing is I've only done 44k miles so in future I'm thinking of including a MAF sensor change now every 30-35k and keep the performance of the engine in top order. Your comments on changing every 35k miles ?? Quote
NikpV Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 Until I read your post I had decided to change it every 50k (cars done 64k) but seeing that it made such a difference to you at 44k I think I might schedule a change at 40k miles. I cant really remember when the performance started going downhill (or at least not going uphill :D :D) Quote
sepulchrave Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 Why not stick a pound in the ashtray every time you fill it up, then when you have enough to buy a MAF it'll be time to change it! :D Why don't we use our collective purchasing power to get MAF's cheaper, we could get probes only from Bosch in quantity, after all every new member will need one! NikpV Posted June 2, 2006 Report Posted June 2, 2006 are the mafs different for Mk1 and mk2 1.9, 1.9pd, 2.0 2.3 and 2.8 cars in which case its going to be harder getting a discount - are petrol derivatives less sensitive to maf problems? Quote
sepulchrave Posted June 2, 2006 Report Posted June 2, 2006 Nik, it doesn't matter because the vast majority of MAF's will be for the TDi's so the total quantity is what matters rather than individual items. In any event Bosch only actually manufacture 19 different MAF's for the entire VW Motronic range and I know that many of these share the same probes in slightly different housings. Quote
NikpV Posted June 2, 2006 Report Posted June 2, 2006 what we want is a supply of probes then since they're dead easy to fit  Quote
