:D Had a run up to Edinburgh zoo with the kids -on the way back along the A68- Flash- and i was caught by the dreaded speed camera ,so i'll just have to wait and see if i'm 3 points heavier on my nice clean licence.Still my own fault though :D It was interesting to note that on the Scottish side of the A68 speed camers were everywhere, but on the English side there very few, and then they were only in towns and villages , worst thing was on the border there's a big sign saying "welcome to Scotland" :D yeah thanks a lot! :D .on a more positive note i can recommend the view from the border view point, on a sunny day it really is stunning -just watch your speed :( :(

Not necessarily true. Depends on your insurer. I'm with Liverpool Victoria and only have to tell them between renewals if I get a ban!

Basically the gist of the Pepipoo stuff is that for a section 172 (Failing to give drivers details) you send the NIP back filled in and unsigned and it can not be used in evidence. For you then to get done for section 172 they have to send out a police officer to caution you and take a statement. Which is unlikely to happen. Especially if you live in England, out of their area.

Most cameras are there as a speed reduction visual item only, a lot are inactive, they can flash even if they contain no film.

Only one in four drivers flashed by a speed camera has had to pay a fine, a major motoring report from the RAC claims.

It said most of the speeding drivers never receive a fine in the post, while a minority manage to escape conviction.

The vast majority of accidents are caused by poor driving - tail gating, cutting up, overtaking innappropriately etc. Speed is rarely a cause of an accident, although it will exacerbate an accident that happens for other reasons. I believe there is value in cameras at accident black spots - well advertised and with clear notofication of the speed limit. But cameras that are being placed just to enforce arbitrary speed limits bring the system into disrepute and do little to reduce accidents.

Like all laws, the speed limits need to be interpreted flexibly and treated as guidance except where there is a clear need for strong limits - eg outside schools, in heavily built up areas etc.

One of my tasks in my job is documenting the aftermath of road traffic collisions, and I tell you now, there is nothing worse.
