Guest ksjdfbgkj Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 Hey guys.I've only just found out about this website and may I say IT'S AWESOME! I was wondering whether you guys could help me. I'm changing my standard radio to another one which definitly cant be controlled by the fac. fitted stereo stalk, just below the indicator/c.control stalk. Please can you tell me before i start the job which wires i would not need to connect to the new stereo.same Q put another way, which wires are responsible for connecting the stereo control stalk to the radio? thanks alot BTW its an mk1Also my climate control used to flash on starting the engine. in fact it did for a couple of months but now ive noticed its stopped. should i be suspicious? this also leads me to another question: if a falut code is registered in the ECU and then that fault is rectified, is the fault still registered with the ECU? or does it delete it? thanks once again! NikpV Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 Are you sure you can't get a harness adapter from your head unit to the ford wiring - something like harness adapter Fault codes are usually stored until reset ps: to get wire colors we would probably need more vehicle information - some wiring changed mid 1997 ish - see my signature Quote
Guest ksjdfbgkj Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 Are you sure you can't get a harness adapter from your head unit to the ford wiring - something like harness adapter urm im not sure that the radio im putting in has a function to be controlled by any stalk. Is every radio compatible? Quote
NikpV Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 Arent you going to need a ford to iso harness adapter anyway - so if the radio cannot be remote controlled it wont have the connections anyway Quote

Iso - just a standard connector - non-oem head units usually have a standard (iso) set of sockets on the back, for a few quid you buy a iso to your make/model of car harness adapter. Thats certainly what I've always done. The problem with the individual wire approach is identifying the wires :D Quote

(you have to look at all the pics) Quote
NikpV Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 you will also have a gap below head unit (based on mk2- dont have a mk1) so a fascia blanking plate + harness adapter like ebay item 9732832970 would be needed - check with seller or go to a local ICE shop - try halfrauds Quote
Guest 3.5bullet Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 the 300rds has remote control capability! whether or not it can be controlled by the factory fitted remote is another question? i would say not! for futher details click the click and the majority of your questions will be answered? http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/3810232221.pdf the unit shown in your ebay link does not appear to have a mounting cage? you will need the correct cage in order to lock the unit in place and hinder it's removal, with that done you will then need the correct tools to remove the radio! for this unit a piece of bent wire will not suffice Quote

gregers Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 i wouldve thought your local friendly i.c.e shop would be able to help you out in obtaining the correct tools for the job. Quote

Guest ksjdfbgkj Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 i've just googled rm-x25 (the remote control mentioned in the above pdf) and it comes up with a proper remote just like one to control a tv....the one in my car is attached to the steering wheel....its just like an indicator stalk. is there any way the both will be able to talk to each other? Quote
Masked Marauder Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 I had one of those radios, I bought it about 10 or 11 years ago, when RDS & Traffic Page was the latest thing. The remote was a twiddly little thing that connected using a jack plug. It certainly was not an IrD TV style remote. You stuck it onto the steering column with a sticky pad thing. It was crap. Quote
Guest ksjdfbgkj Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 sorry guys, i've just found this :Dboth the tv style remote AND the joystick have the same model number :Dnow why name two separate things with the same model number? my bad: one is RM-X25 and the other it RM-X2S Quote
Guest 3.5bullet Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 dont hold me to this but a search has found these parts, these i believe will allow you to keep and use the factory fitted remote stalk and use it to operate the sony head unit http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/catimages/accs/pc99.jpgManufacturer: AutoleadsPart Number: PC99SON Manufacturer: AutoleadsPart Number: PC99X07http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/catimages/accs/pc99x.jpg both parts available from http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/ Quote

gregers Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 wasnt a sharp model by any chance was it MM? Quote
Masked Marauder Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 It was a Sony, the same model IIRC as the OPs. The remote was crap because it was too fiddly when driving down the road, they have tried to cram too amny functions onto it in my opinion. I was used to the bigger ones on the trucks at work, more akin to that on the Alhambra. Quote
Guest ksjdfbgkj Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 sorry for bother but whats IIRC and OP's? Quote
