Guest Big AL Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 Hey O learned friends, Big AL here again.I need a replacement drivers door for my 1999 "V" reg Galaxy. Are all Galaxy doors the same (offside front) :P or do I need to get hold of a second hand exact match ie 1999 "V" reg one.Does the level of trim matter on a replacement door as I am going to strip the gear off the existing one. :D Regards Quote
NikpV Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 I don't see how the trim level would make any difference if you are going to strip the old door, I thought that size and shape are the same between mk1 and mk2 doors but can't be sure I would get a mk1 to be safe - probably more araound anyway Quote
Masked Marauder Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 Looked on ETOS and the doors are the same part number regardless of MK1 or MK2 Quote

sepulchrave Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 That's not what I meant! The hinges are welded, not bolted and are immovable (I suppose if you had enough people :D ). I will be very surprised if a secondhand door fits properly since the hinges are all in slightly different places to account for slack production tolerances in the bodyshell. When you buy a brand new door it comes sans hinges, and the manufacturer specified bodyshop procedure is to bolt on the new replacements hinges and align manually, then tack weld, remove bolts, weld permanently and paint and finish the new door. The factory fitted hinges are different. I suppose you could strip out the secondhand door and cut off the original hinges before following the above procedure, new doors come pre-drilled with nutserts I think to facilitate the above. That's why. :( Quote
