pcshak Posted May 31, 2006 Report Posted May 31, 2006 Hi On my Galaxy the front wipers just run on x2 speed I cannot get them to go slow.Any ideas. Thanks Shak Galaxy Tdi W reg Mk1 Quote
bigdaddy Posted May 31, 2006 Report Posted May 31, 2006 sounds like either a faulty relay or faulty selecter switch Quote
NikpV Posted May 31, 2006 Report Posted May 31, 2006 I'm a MKII kind of guy but I'd heard that the MKI had some sort of programmable intermitent wipe function - just wondered whether it can be increased up to this speed and thats what you've got - as I said don't really know the MKI so this may be way off  :P Quote
bigdaddy Posted May 31, 2006 Report Posted May 31, 2006 Nik you are right, but it resets itself to a default setting every time you turn off the ignition, though thats not saying its not faulty  :P Quote

Guest 3.5bullet Posted May 31, 2006 Report Posted May 31, 2006 there are reports of water ingress into the motor and attatched control gear causeing a few problems! the other big killer of mk1 wiper motors was a electrical surge cause by switching on the air conditioning and spikeing the motor control gear, this is very unlikely to have happened as your air con most probably doesnt work! Quote
pcshak Posted June 7, 2006 Author Report Posted June 7, 2006 Thanks for all the replies. I suppose the first thing I should check is that the relays are ok,then maybe check the wiper switch on the steering column,is there any thing glaring that might show its the stalk or is it all internal electronic that are knackered? Everything else is ok i.e. aircon etc... so I just hope its not the motor which I hear is quite expensive. Does anyone know if pulling the wiper motor out is a straight forward job, if I can pull it out maybe an inspection might show up problems with the motor or a clean up might cure it.Is there anything obvious in the wiper motor that might point to the problem. Appreciate All your answers.. :-) Quote
NikpV Posted June 7, 2006 Report Posted June 7, 2006 Remove wiper motor Note:The windscreen wipers must be in the parked position. Make a note of the radio keycode. Make a note of the programmed radio stations. Lay protective covers on the wings. 1. Disconnect the battery negative lead. 2. Detach the cowl grille. 3. Detach the bulkhead extension. Mark the position of the windscreen wiper motor. 4. Remove the windscreen wiper motor. 1 Disconnect the plug.2 Immobilise the lever.3 Undo the nut.4 Unscrew the bolts. Quote

pcshak Posted June 22, 2006 Author Report Posted June 22, 2006 Thanks for all the Replies,I just come back from Sunny Windy Spain,so will give this a go over the weekend & let you all know how I got on. Btw - is it just a matter of cleaning up the motor/linkages etc... & trying it ? Thanks once again Quote
mumof4 Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 with mine cleaned it up, greased it wth copper ease then re connected..well, before i put the linkage in i hooked it up to make sure the linkage was in the PARK position..got to remember that!!!but be careful not to trap any fingers or its goodbye to opening jam jars!!!!! my linkage had seized so i had to drown it in wd40 for a couple of days.... by the way..i never touched my motor as it was ok..hadnt burnt out at that point!!
