Hi All,

I'm am struggling to write a particular set of files to a DVD!!

Have tried various DVD makes.

I have tried writing in various formats ie Joliet, UDF, ISO etc - not that I understand!!

I have tried using different burning software.

I should point out that normally I don't have a problem, it is just this particular set of files.

All works fine if I just write say a set of MP3's that I have ripped myself but this is a downloaded Nero image file. I have Nero and it doesn

why doesn't nero work, how are you extracting the files from the nero image, what burning software are you using and how much of the dvd is it taking up , does it burn and not read, does it not burn? some answers may help sort out why - what the problem is.

To extract the files from the image I am using Magic ISO.

To try and burn I am using Nero 7 (first) and then some freeware CDBurnerXP Pro Version 3.

Both throw an error (different for each of the above but happy to post the log file, but its quite a read!!) early in the burn ie 6%.

The DVD looks empty, but is unusable ie cannot burn to it again.

how about trying to get a trial version of alcohol 120% and trying, have you burnt any other image since you tried this one, how big is the image

Have you checked the files before burning, also which DVDs are you using are they the cheap silver ones?? I would always recommend using ritek with the G4 blue dye they look a purple-ish blue on the underside.

Have tried "Imation DVD+R" and because I have been having trouble have been trying more recently using "Misubishi Black Diamond DVD-RW".

I have to say that I don't normally have any problems.

I can't even write a single file that has been extracted from the image, could they be copy protected in some way? Any way to find out?

Thanks for the responses.

...Caught my eye :16:

Oggy, have you tried mounting the image using Nero ImageDrive to create a virtual device in your My Computer folder?

Can you then access the image as if it were already burned?

looks like you do not have the complete iso image.

it may say 700mb as the file sizes are indexed at the start. so it looks like the full amount but is missing parts of the files.

even windows will say the expected size...

How did you download the file - was it in multiple parts, if so how was it re-assembled, if the part were .rar files did you test it before/after extraction were they zip files etc.

If you can't mount the image using daemon tools /alcohol/nero imagedrive then suzuki91 may have the idea here

pm with details if you're coy :)

Umm, the source of the file!!

EMule mean anything?

It could be that I don't have all the parts but I have successfully extracted files from the images without apparent error, but then I can't write them to DVD (or virtual DVD as suggested), but I can access and read them!!

suzuki91 may be on to something but how do I test?

PS: Have tried Alcohol 120 1.9.5.3823 via majorgeeks.com but on installing it says they don't do a trial anymore!!

Cheers.

I'm assuming that emule is some sort of p2p system, do theyy use their own format or is it a standard like rar, zip etc?
Posted

Correct p2p!!

Format is non proprietary, downloads tend to be zip, rar, iso or nrg images.

Some form of file chunking is employed to share the files between servers. The downloads were large and I guess it is possible that the image may not have reassembled itself but how can I tell? I have apparently extracted files from it without issue!!

have you loaded the iso to burn then got the burning software to do a check before burning?

could be corrupt files.

try getting the file again and if it transfers too quick ie 700megs in 3 mins its a wrong un.

p2p like to fool people like that.(unless you have a t3 connection or better?)

If this is an ISO or NRG file why are you extracting the files and then using Nero to burn them?

If it is a valid image then start Nero, cancel the Nero wizard when it comes up, then go to the 'Recorder' option on the top menu and in there should be 'Burn Image', choose the image file you have downloaded and let it get on with it, this should create the cd/dvd correctly.

If this is a film you have downloaded and it is only 700/800mb then it may want to be burnt to a CD and not a DVD.

If that fails to work then let us know what files are in the image.

It is happening with an 2Gb ISO Image and a 4Gb Nero Image file and I don't fancy downloading again thanks!

Considering the Nero Image file .....

I have tried to burn the image through Nero as suggested. I do appreciate that is the point of the image, however when it failed repeatedly, the file extraction was part of the investigation. The files extract fine, many are cab files and are readable (via WinRar) while on the hard disk, but when I try to burn either the image through Nero, or the files that I have extracted from the image, I get an error. Can't remember the error statement now and am reluctant to post the log cos that is what everyone does and I don't think it is fair on the others to expect that such an epistle is read on my behalf, anyway error was different in different burning apps.

My hunch is that somehow the image file is corrupt and that suzuki91 is on the right lines, but its only a hunch and I would love to prove it.

The file in question is ELSAWin. I know I can buy it for a few quid from eBay, and I intend to, but I would like to know what is going on with the copy I have downloaded.

Similar applies to the 2Gb ISO file.

have you tried mounting the image using imagedrive - failing that get a copy of daemon tools and mount the image with that, you can then install if the image is not corrupt. Incidentally thats how I installed my elsawin :D :D (mine wasn't from a p2p source though)
