when you select say 21 degrees for the front, the back temperature cannot go less than 21 degrees (well it can but in doing so, it also reduces the front temp to whatever you have chosen for the back temp)

!!

When you select a higher temp for the back, it WILL go up without increasing the front temp, up to a maximum of three degrees i.e if both are on 21, increase the back temperature and it will go up to 24, after this if you choose 25, it increases the front one to 22.

I thought it was just a recirculating thing?

WHAT the hell are auxilalry booster heaters ?

from info gathered from elsewhere on this forum i gather you can only have a 3-4 degree difference in the temperature selected for the two heater zones?

the auxilalry booster heater is a seperate external unit that heats the engine coolant on tdi's due them being a poor heat provider due to the low calorific value of the fuel used

Posted

yep, if the rear temp is higher, then it can only be within 3 degrees of the front temp. it cannot be lower than the front temp

so this external unit, does it use more fuel? and are you saying if i run my td engine for an hour and put my hand on the engine i wont burn myself?

the engine will get hot! wether it's able to burn you? i would think the turbo and exhast manifold and a few other bits would burn you for sure if your foolish enough to touch them without protection!

what im trying to get at is that sure the engine runs at a lower temp than a petrol but its still hot enough to burn (not catch fire) you if you touch the metal underneath that black plastic engine cover...

well thats the booster heater, used to boost the coolant due the engine not being able to provide enough heat to provide hot coolant for the heaters and to warm the engine to full operateing temperature, from looking elsewhere on the forum you should be able to find all the information on this unit to keep you busy for hours!

try the first item in the FAQ

and you could try putting 'aux heater' into the search - returns at least 600+ hits (if you ask for posts) if you want to know a bit more

I've finished reading it right about.......NOW!

W-O-W!!!

dont worry i've got more questions: are the booster heater and the aux heater the same?

Do petrols have this unit fitted near the n/s back tyre? becuz on my sharan, the clock in there has that heating button....nothing much happens when i press it but i actually thought it was a redundant button as it didn't make sense why it was on the clock. Also, my sharan has only one temperature setting as opposed to the two (front and back) i have in my galaxy

I've read in the manual that the aux/booster heater has its own power supply: where is this?

I've never heard it switched on but then again i've only had the car for about a week.....is this right: the "extra" heater (dunno what to call it, aux or booster) next to the n/s back tyre comes on if

1) the coolant temperature is below 75degrees (and therefore should come on when i start it tomorrow morning

AND/ OR (which one?)

2) when is colder than 10 or 5 degrees outside

it heats up the coolant, which is used to heat up which matrix? the one for the front or back?

Four hours on aux heater - wow hope you had fun

JEEZ you coulda answered some of my questions!

Dont make me hunt you down...........................................................................................AGAIN!

and yes, it WAS vvv interesting

booster heater = aux heater

some petrol have heater - usually cold countries

no extra power supply

needs to be below about 10c and coolant below 75 to come on

don't know about sharan extra button though

does the aux heater run according to the ambient temperature given by the sensor for the climate control?

basically i wanna see if it turns on at 5 or 10 degrees, can i use the clim control temp to justify this?

Hi guys have one question relating to double A/C have any of you guys got double ac only on the front and back (on the floor rear) seems to be a hell of confusion on this subject even the stealers are not shure.

I believe you only have dual air-conditioning if you have the roof outlets in the rear, otherwise there is only hot and unheated air available in the back.

One way of confirming if you have dual or single air conditioning is to look at the pipes running just behind the nearside sill below the rear door which then go up into the body near the rear wheel. If you have rear air-conditioning you will have four pipes, two thick, one medium and one thin, if not there will just be two pipes. (This is on vehicles without the auxilliary heater, so that could add to or hide the pipes.)
