mustie Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 Hi Just got a set of new locks including handles . 2 front door locks and talgate lock and ignition lock as me passenger lock is knackered key turns both ways in lock and nothing happens my question is:- Do i need the red master key ?? as 1 was'nt supplied when i got the car Can the new keys be programmed without the red key ?? my galaxy is the latter of 1997 R Reg Cheers :23: Quote
NikpV Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 Sounds like you've got the 2 key programming system (don't need the red key) especially if you didn't get one with the car. Have you got two new keys with the locks? I would assume that the new keys won't be programmed to your PATS unless the unit is actually in the ignition lock. If it isn't then I think you will need to get ford to program the PATS. Can't see how it could know the keys as you've just bought them. If the PATS unit is in the ignition lock then it may come preprogrammed (don't know where the codes are actually stored). Did you get the new locks and keys from fords? Quote
Guest 3.5bullet Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 If the PATS unit is in the ignition lock then it may come preprogrammed (don't know where the codes are actually stored). the pats sensor ring is a seperate part from the ignition switch, on early models the main unit is mounted under the dash, the pats unit is coded to the main ecu so swapping it to a unit that is matched with the new keys would not work :23: a cheaper and easier option would be to replace the duff passenger side door handle/lock with a rear door handle and do away with the lock altogether Quote

I think from the op that hes already got the new locks and keys - so it looks like ford will have to program them - umm how to get the car there after changing the locks?? Anybody know if vag-com can program the keys to the PATS?? Quote

Masked Marauder Posted May 23, 2006 Report Posted May 23, 2006 Anybody know if vag-com can program the keys to the PATS?? Yes it can, but you need the 4 digit immobilizer code. My car is a SEAT and I got my code from the service department of a SEAT dealer for free. Can the OP not swap the chips from his current keys? Quote

Ahh ... you've got a seat then or was it free from there ?? Can the OP not swap the chips from his current keys? dunno waiting for some more info ..... from him :16: Quote
mustie Posted May 25, 2006 Author Report Posted May 25, 2006 Sold the lock set Phoned fords and was told that if i change all the locks i wont be able to start the car or i could take it to them and they would fit all the locks and sort the code and pats out for just over 300.00 sod that , so i just bought a rear handle and fitting it the weekend so will only have 2 locks as othere members suggested ,, as my galaxy does'nt have remote locking ( well can't see and sensors ) i am looking around for a aftermarket remote locking unit i see 1 on a web site made for the galaxy it just plugs in the loom but i cant find the ruddy site now GGGGRRRRRR WILL JUST HAVE TO KEEP SEARCHING cheers guys Quote
Masked Marauder Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 as my galaxy does'nt have remote locking ( well can't see and sensors ) Only the version with IrD remotes has sensors. Radio transmittered remote locking has no sensor domes. That is the majority of cars, the IrD was only fitted for a couple of years. Quote
gregers Posted May 25, 2006 Report Posted May 25, 2006 iirc our fellow poster ALARM MAN sold these sort of kits might be worth sending him an email Quote
