just buy yourself a neo car jukebox or an mstation, ive got one with a 40gb hard drive that will hold 10,000 songs, they are not easy to get hold of now but try ebay theres normally a couple on there, and you can put bigger hard drive in should you feel the need,

One thing that really bugs me is: Why use an inverter?

Your car has 12v DC in abundance, a typical PC needs 12v, 5v and 3.3v DC surely a more elegant and efficient solution must exist?

The problem with cars is the 12v can vary from 7v - 16v and have spikes/surges up to 60v so your power supply would need to be buck/boost and surge protected. In practice, using laptop parts with a in-car charger would be the most cost effective and space efficient. Remember most modern PC's use 300+W of power. Think about the heat and draining your battery......

Illegal, dangerous and impractical. Would you want to stare at your mouse cursor while using a mouse pad or other device while driving at 70mph down the M1? :)

For all the hassle, just buy a cheap laptop or two and give em to your passengers to view DVDs etc

Portable DVD players are dirt cheap.....

:) i asked how would you go about controlling your pc - i didnt mention under what conditions, and i didnt say while doing 70mph.

so i will.

while the car is STATIC (IE 0 mph, in a safe place to do so) how would you operate it?

i thought wireless tracker ball for most operations.

i would find more info about the xbox in relation to power. i heard somewhere that they do not like running on an inverter as these provide a square wave- not a true sine wave. as for sound, if you have an aftermarket headunit, it may well have rca inputs. if so you can wire that to the output of the xbox.

laptops are dead easy to put in the car - just don't use a top end laptop as these will draw more power then the incar chargers can provide - eventually you will flatten the laptop battery.

full pc's give you much more option in what you can do with them however they are more difficult to do properly. you need an opus power supply
