Guest milkyway Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 Hi people new to this site. I just bought a 2.8 v6 1997 galaxy. Got a slight problem, changed the plugs but when the car is just started it runs fine but as soon as it warms up is starts missfirning. It smells rich of petrol to which suggests its over fueling, does anyone know if there is a common thing that causes this problem. Or what causes it to over fuel. Any help would be greatfull. cheers Chris Quote
NikpV Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 Possibly coolant temp sender - ecu decides on mixture based on that - (many moons ago it would have been the choke) Quote
Guest 3.5bullet Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 check the engine breather pipes and valves around the left hand side of the engine, there are a couple of these that open when the engine is warm and then vent fuel fumes and crank case fumes into the intake system, if these pipes, vaves are open to the atmosphere they can cause bad running and funny smells!there is a small round valve in this area that is prone to splitting, this is known to cause rough running! mines held together with self tappers till I get hold of a new one :47:also try niks suggestion, a lad at work has a VR6 Golf track day car that had a similer fault? it ran ok while cold but was a bag of nail when hot! that turned out to be a duff temp sensor! sepulchrave Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 It could also be the MAF (or the throttle position sensor), disconnect it and see if it improves. Quote
Triple Trouble Posted May 22, 2006 Report Posted May 22, 2006 I am no expert but could it be HT leads/coil breaking down when warm? Good luck any way :47: Quote
