Hi

You may remember I had problems with broken tailgate wires a few months ago.

I fixed them, now the rear passenger door fails to lock automatically. I suspected it might be a damage wire, so I pulled off the rubber sleeve and found a blue/green wire hanging loose.

It has pulled out of the black plastic connector block that fits on the pillar where the door hinges.

I know which position the wire connects to and if I hold the wire in that position the door locking works.

My problem is how to fix the wire back. I can solder a new length of wire onto the existing piece (got to do this as it only just stretches to the connector block when the door is wide open: I don't know how it lasted so long) but how do I then fix the end of this into the connector.

Should I take the entire block out of the door pillar (how ?) or will the connector pull out of the block?

What sort of connector is used? I thought about soldering the new wire back but theres not much room and I might melt some plastic.

If you need a picture I've got one but don't know how to post it here.

Any help welcomed.

Thanks.

Brilliant Thanks NikpV.

I just need to wait for some dry weather and I'll have a go.

The wife will be well impressed, because I told her to go into the local garage on Friday and they said "Ooh electrics, that's expensive,

No problem, Haven't tried removing connector from plug, usually with these sorts of things a very small screwdriver is needed to depress a retaining spring/lug which then allows the contact to be removed. If you do that rather than just solder a new bit of wire back in can you post back on how you managed it with some pictures so we ca extend the faq for everybody

Well the rain finally stopped and I followed your instructions and fixed the job in 15 mins.

I simply soldered a new bit of wire onto the end of the existing wire (that was really too short) and then soldered the other end of the new wire into the hole where the connector was. I couldn't get the connector out of the plastic block so I just dumped some solder ontop of the connecter and held the new wire in place until it set.

I don't think any pictures are needed above and beyond yours.

An expensive garage job made easy!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks again.

Nope, it is just that as the forum becomes more and more popular the costs of running it goes up and up. So if everyone who managed to save some money gave a little bit back we can be here the next time they need help....

i know these donations are voluntary but is there a figure that is needed to be achieved every week so as to keep the site running at top notch if so maybe a voluntary fee could be set for members to pay on a monthly basis or annually , as you say we are all here to help each other but without the site then a lot of us will be up $H1T creek witout a paddle :D and would be paying ford big bucks. Just a thought :D

last time glen mentioned it he said he only ever looks in the account if he needs something for the server I'm sure if there were a large expense if not covered an appeal on here would sort it, I think that upgrades like the recent one and options like Live Chat cost money, He's often moaning that 'I pay for Live chat but nobody uses it' :D :D

I have donated earlier this year - If someone would suggest how much and how often then I would be happy to donate again or even regularly )providing it's a reasonable amount!)
