My Pc Crashed This Morn

Ok..dreaded blue screen again..3rd time in two weeks this has happened!!

 

this time i got :

 

KERNEL-DATA-INPGE-ERROR

 

What on earth is it????

 

then it did a physical memory dump

 

last time it was some sort od driver i didnt know i had

 

when i restart pc it works fine.

 

Help needed please.

did it give a file name with the error - incidently mine did yesterday happens occasionally - don't get too bent out of shape unless it starts happening regularly

how about some details for the exact error message - not just a rough translation could then google for it - get some idea that way - or post it somebody may recognise it :( :(

there was.....but there were loads of them..at the bottom of the screen..that error was at the top...i dint have chance to write them down before the screen went black after a final click from the tower

This error message can be caused by a whole raft of problems, virus, overheating, hard disk problems, bad ram timing, ram going bad, windows swap file problems.

 

Since you are getting the error regularly and have so warning due to the clicking try and get the first number when it happens.

 

Error usually means that data read from the swap file is not valid for one of the above reasons. Does it happen after your pc has been running for a while or is the time random. Unless you left your pc running overnight I would rule out overheating unless your processor fan sometimes doesnt start.

 

could do with more info to diagnose

Thanks for that...im going to run another scan to see if it picks up anything..then ill try everything else suggested as ive aded it to faves and avail off line.

This will usually happen if you are using memory hungry programs that have a memory leak, this means it does not terminate a routine once it has been completed and starts eating up the resources until the PC falls over.

 

It will also happen if the computer temperature is over safe limits and could mean you need to get a new heatsink and fan (or strip down and clean your old one) you should have a PC health section on your Bios to tell you the temperature, but you can download a program.

 

The other reasons could be your memory is faulty or you do not have enough of it, or that you have bad sectors on your hard drive wich have not been marked so when it tries to write to the virtual memory on your hard drive it causes an error and dumps.

 

as a rule of thumb of the error shows a specific file for the error it is a software issue, if it shows a load of memory addresses and interupts it is a hardware problem.

Microsoft do not differenciate between physical and virtual they class all memory that is being used as physical :lol:

 

So whether it is using your HD(ROM) or RAM it will still come up with physical memory failure..

What operating system and PC spec do you have?

 

Definately sounds like a memory issue to me. Either virtual memory or physical memory. Could therefore be a problem with your ram, your pagefile or your hard disk.

 

If you are running windows XP then you could try disabling "Write Caching" on the drive. Might experience a SLIGHT drop in speed of processing, but it'll reduce the amount of resources your PC is having to deal with.

 

Right click on the start button and click Properties. Click on the Policies tab and untick Enable write caching on disk.

 

Let us know how you get on :lol:

You can get a little program from microsoft (foc), download it to your pc, put it on a floppy, then restart pc with floppy in the drice the program will test your memory and tell you if it is faulty or not,,,,,,,

I done this, memory was faulty, replaced memory and i never got the blue screen again,,,,,,,,,,,,

my avast anti virus is still scanning so far it is on 212k files and still going!!!!!!

 

i know more about cars than i do about my pc!!!!!

I have a HP Pavillion 722 with 40gb hard drive-256mb ram-1.8 ghz

 

it is now on 230k..and it is only scanning my c drive.

 

i dont have that much on it!!

ah, just finished

no virus at 283k files on c drive.

 

im still non the wiser!! :lol:

we can probably start along the road to find out what the problem (see my post, glens and bd's earlier) but you will have be prepared to risk doing it - risk being you may lose internet access while you are doing it.

I kept getting the BSOD on Tuesday night. The heatsink and fan had fallen off my Northbridge, one of the loops for the hooks had come off of the motherboard, solder and all....! I can laugh about it now.... :rolleyes:

You probably need more Hard DIsk space.

 

Does anyone know if the HP pavilion has any spare Drive bays or IDE ports?

 

It might also be easier in the long run to add a USB external drive - That way you ge the extra capacity but don't have to sod about inside the box :D
