Guest Ian Hampton Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 Hello Gang, Does anyone have an official checklist/service schedule for the items which should be checked/replaced at each of the service intervals, at my recent 60k service Ford could/would not give me a list of what they checked/replaced. I am definitely smelling a rat.... They charged me Quote
Guest emjay Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 I got a print out from my ford garage, just went in and asked!. Am I lucky or is my local garage better than most? Quote
Guest shackers Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Hi Ian; First of all for complaints concerning Ford Garages contact: 0845 8411111 ask for: Tim O' Rouke, he is like a Customer Service Complaints Manager and probably the only one who you'll get any sense from. He will suggest you complain directly to the dealer first, as you have done. It is well worth complaining so we all get a better service. At all Ford Dealerships, once you have had and paid for a service you should be handed a 'Service Checklist' informing you of the exact work carried out. This is a Legal Obligation and your Right. the service checklist is as follows.... bear with it... A 60k service should consist of: [Major Service as recommended by Ford] Instrument gauges, warning/control lights and hornClutchWasher, wipersexterior and respective control lights; instument cluster illumination.handbrakeservice interval indicator [reset]seat beltsdoor check strapsdoor hingeshood latch/safety catch &hingesWiring, pipes, hoses, oil and fuel feed linesengine, vacuum pump, heater and radiatorauxillary drive belts [check, adjust if necessary]coolant [check anti-freeze cincentration]coolant expansion tank, power steering fluid, washer reservoirs and battery.Battery and terminalsPollen filter [renew]Engine [drain oil and renew oil filter. Renew sump plug gasket where fitted]Steering, suspension linkages, ball joints, sideshaft joints, gaiters, propshaft 'guilbo' jointEngine transmission, rear axle, transfer boxpipes, hoses, wiring, oil and fuel feed lines, exhaustUnderbody [check condition of PVC coatingTyres [check wear and condition(note tread depth)]brake systemengine [refill engine oil]brake fluid [level check]Tyres [adjust pressure]spare wheel [check, adjust pressure]luggage compartment lamp wheel nuts [Tighten to correct torque] this form should also be signed by the technician with technical comments wrote within a box below. Also with this form should be a Visual Healthcheck sheet with advisory notes... I'm glad I can type fast  hope this helps, I would definetly complain Ian direct to Ford Motor Company Ltd. Use the number above, or If you like, give me a shout and I'll have a word. I'm going to put my Fingers to bed now, they are tired hhhah shackers Quote
Guest michelleski Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Ian - to sounds to me like you have been well and truly ripped off. If as Shakers says, its a legal obligation for them to provide you with the signed checklist sheet, I wonder seeing as they cant/wont give you this, whether you are within your rights to demand they now (re)service your vehicle as you can prove they have not replaced the pollen filter or even changed the spark plugs! Its beyond belief that dealerships get away with this sort of thing - when the reason we take our cars to them is to maintain resaleability. If they really havent carried out your service, I'd not only complain to this ORourke chap, but I'd get in touch with Watchdog too - get a bit of publicity on the telly - thats gotta help! ...Watchdog have had dealerships on before for the exact problem you are experiencing. ...just my two penneths worth! Michelle. Quote
Guest Ian Hampton Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Thanks everyone, It's good to get feedback from other Galaxy owners! Unfortunately even though I lived in the US for 4 years, and learnt to complain more readily, I still suffer from that British disease of not really wanting to upset anyone.... especially if they're working on the vehicle that transports my kids around....Anyway, I will definitely drop a line to Rapidfit. cheers, Ian. Danny Boy Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 I'm booking my Galaxy (Petrol) in for its 120k service next week can someone post me what they should check over so I know before I hand over my money please. Cheers Quote
Guest shackers Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 What type of Mileage are you doing per year and what is the service history. At 120k I would suggest a Major Service to include Additional scheduled maintenance items. This is/should be, the same as what Ian had. What part of the country are you IN? as a memeber of the Forum may well be able to suggest a Good Dealership/Garage. This will give you a full report on the Health of your Galaxy [i have heard of a dealer (Ian's) who does not give a full Service Checklist and Health Check sheet, this is not acceptable practice and against Ford Motor Company Policy as well as taking away your legal right]. MAKE SURE the dealer gives you a full report, confirm with the service centre before hand. On the last service where the Spark Plugs changed?, ford's spark plugs are not part of a Major or Minor service! I know this is not common sense but Ford Know Best [don't they]. Should you not be able to determine the spark Plug situation, you'll be looking at around Quote
Guest shackers Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003  Forgot to say, Ford Motor Company would not expect you to pay more than £195.00 Inclusive of VAT for this. This does not Include the Spark plugs though! and can depend on what part of the Country you live in... I've heard Yorkshire {I think Leeds} someone should be able to confirm this. Do a good Major service for less and do an exceptional Job! Shackers Quote
Danny Boy Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 I live in Birmingham and have already received a price form Bristol Street Motors of Quote
Guest shackers Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 I'm not sure about Birmigham dealers, your qutation is about right i'd say. The reason I asked on the Mileage side was because, if you are a High Mileage user I'd suggest a Major With Plugs and Mobil One Oil. Your mileage is about average, just below, so you could save yourself the cost of the Plugs and, should the vehicle of already had a Major alst year, get a Minor service with a visual health Check for peace of mind. but at £170.00 you can't go wrong, just visualy check under the bonnet for possible leaks, especialy Power Stearing fluid/ brake fluid. Pipes etc.... so you have a mental note of the condition and It's always good to be familiar with your engine... Then if a Phone call from Ford says one thing and you know it's not the case! Explaining to them that It has has a Visual check and this was not picked up can help you know end. I'm always cautious Danny, I used to work for a Main dealer and do know what happens behind closed doors... THIS IS NOT THE CASE ALL OVER THE UK MIND Shackers Quote
Danny Boy Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 Thats great 'Shackers' thanks for your advice i'll bare it all in mind when i take it in! I'll let you know if anything happens  Quote
