Hi,

Little problem, advice would be appreciated.

Vehicle is a 99 2.5 Ghia X

When driving for a few miles battery light comes on at about 2500RPM or above but will go off again when revs drop below 2000.

Car starts fine and all electrics seem to be working. Alternator replaced about 6 months ago after total failure.

I assume it is battery on last legs and charges a little after starting, but then rejects charge once as full as it can be. Battery is old, don't know how old.

Anyone had or heard of this before?

Cheers

You sure the belt is fully tight? Doesn't sound like a dud battery if the car starts fine from cold. The symptoms don't match that anyhow. Is it any different when you have lights, wipers, AC, rear window, blower on full etc?

Put a voltmeter across the battery once the car is running and check the reading at low and high revs. A functioning charge system will generate about 14.5V across the battery and in a modern car this oughtn't to change much with revs alone. Should be an easy diagnostic challenge for a good garage but don't settle for flim flam, or another new alternator come to that...without proof and a guarantee.

Hi, recently had the same problem on my Maverick, traced it to a bent pin on the alternator where the plug is attached. On the Mav. the plug has three wires and it was one of these that was not connecting properly causing the intermittant fault. Might be worth a look, especially as the plug must have recently been dis-connected when your alternator was changed. :D Andy.
