midhertsgalaxy Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 I have read lots of topics about poor starting and learned alot about relay 30. Does my Galaxy - (2.3 Mk2) have a relay 30. It has had very occaisional starting problems. Three times in the last two years it hasn't even turned over, but instead much flashing of dashboard lights and clicking of relays. In anger and frustration I have walked away, phoned the AA and then returned to the car, at which point, luck a sulky child who has been given a sweet, it started perfectly. Then last Sunday, only 5 days after a Ford 50,000 mile service, it behaved diffently. This time it turned over but would not fire. The fuel pump was working and there was a strong smell of petrol. No amount of walking away and locking/unlocking the doors helped and for 2 days it sulked. It must going through teens. Guess what. this morning, despite a virtually flat battery, it started first time. I was about to get it towed to a Fraud garage. Now its going, i don't know what to do. I don't want Fraud to put it on their computer and diagnose something expensive unless the car is actually not starting. I guess I shall invest in AA Homestart and wait for the next failure. Anyone out there experienced similar probems? Midherts Galaxy PS does anyone else have a whirring, grinding sound from the starter motor immeadiatly after the engine fires? Quote

midhertsgalaxy Posted May 16, 2006 Author Report Posted May 16, 2006 don't think it was flooded because it still wouldn't start on sunday evening, some 6 hours after it first failed  No flashing door LED at the time of failure, but will also investigate keys. Problems occured on Sunday when using my partner's remote key. I have the Non remote key (stingey ford only supply one remote key) - lo and behold, car starts - could be a key problem I have just read a topic on the squealing starter motor/aux belt. Sounds just like my symptoms. Off to check Thanks Quote
