When changing the MAF the other day I noticed that the belt was crazed a little on the outside - I've not noticed it before - car has 66k on the clock and FFsh everything has been done AFAIK should this be a concern?

Hi Nik it would have been an easy job when having the cam belt changed on mine but they forgot mines done 70k and belt is crazed waiting for that warm Sunday to spend all day replacing it i carry the new one just in case. Thats of course if i can get to it never thought to ask if it was an easy job it looks a bit congested in there.

Now I am not an expert!! but I bought mine with 44K on the clock and was advised somewhere that if the belt had not been done then get it done sharpish!!

I got conflicting advice about when the belt should be done, so decided to play safe.

Apparently the belt will look a little crazed even when it still has loads of life left in it so it might be that it was done say at 40K and is ok for a while yet. On the other hand it might still be orginal!! Do you have the service history?

Sorry - I appreciate that this is not the answer but it might help you to balance all the facts!

Regrads.

Oggy.

Raise vehicle and check ribbed belts from below for:

‒ Sub-surface cracks (cracks, core ruptures, cross sectional breaks)

‒ Layer separation (top layer, cord strands)

‒ Base break-up

‒ Fraying of cord strands

‒ Flank wear (material wear, frayed flanks, flank brittleness -glassy flanks-, surface cracks)

‒ Traces of oil and grease

Surface cracks are OK, just lookout for the sub-surface ones!
