mjkrs2k Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 i thinking of changing my 2.0 manual galaxy and getting a diesel. But with 5500 to spend do i get a mk1 or mk2 one what you you do Quote
mumof4 Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 mk2.the ghia is lovely!! (im biased.) Quote
El Dingo Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 2.3 Ghia is best.Easy to work on, plenty of go, no tractor engine. 2.8 has a better sound-track though. You can afford a Mk. 2, maybe not a Ghia. Quote
Masked Marauder Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 You will struggle to get a decent MK2 TDi, you should be looking for a late MK1 with average milage. Quote

mumof4 Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 I saw a 2003 TDI ghia 130bhp for 12 k the other week,so im thinking that a 2001 may be a whole lot cheaper!I was gutted when i saw it as we paid 15500 for ours. Quote

mumof4 Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 Diesel is a whole lot more better than petrol!!!!More MPG.....less fill ups.....and you can hear the engine work!! Quote
Masked Marauder Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 I heard mine when it stopped working too........ Quote

What was the mileage and condition and equipment, though? Everything..sat nav/cd player/no dvd...all the spec you expect of the ghia.It was the exact same as ours apart from it being a 130bhp....and clean!!!!!.grey interior..Alloys.....(trying to remember everything now)spare wheel....everything a top of the range Ghia has. Condition was brilliant..no dents/scratches/just a couple of stone chips..alloys were immaculate...had done 47k I had my face pressed up against the windows admiring it 4 ages...if its still there tomoz..ill get all the specs. mumof4 Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 I heard mine when it stopped working too........ Not nice is it :( Quote
El Dingo Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 Hmmm... Prices are dropping. Petrol is still cheaper, due to demand for diesel motors. 12k sounds cheap... Leather? Quote

jkspoff Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Just spotted this one on a well known trader web site ! Mk2 tdi. Galaxy, Silver, 83k miles, FSH, all Ghia refinements, 12mths MOT, 7mths tax, excellent condition inside & out, genuine reason for sale . . . . (private) Quote
Guest MATT Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 But with 5500 to spend do i get a mk1 or mk2 one what you you do if you go for an MKII - your looking at higher mileage - which might not be all bad, if its all motorway driving, and has been well looked after. its going to be harder to find a MKII Diesel, but there are a few available, i noticed they haven't put the mileage, so its probably been to the sun and back.and before anyone starts, i have nothing to do with autotrader ..not bad you can get MKI petrols, for around Quote
Guest lincolnimp Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 :( Bought our 115bhp TDi Ghia for 11K with 33k on the clock. Clean 1 owner with service history. Quote
Masked Marauder Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Can we try to stay on topic please, I don't see how many of the replys are going to help the original poster. If he wanted to know what everyone paid for their cars then I am sure the OP would have asked that. Quote
raymac Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 I would personally be inclined to try and find a highish miler with fsh being sold by a trader so if you have any probs you at least have some sort of warranty with private once you have bought it thats it period :( The second one on matts post under not bad is a decent price if it is good nick well worth a look if it's not to far away. mjkrs2k Posted May 14, 2006 Author Report Posted May 14, 2006 many thanks found several mk2 diesels in my price range but i got to sell my mk1 2.0 Quote
sanjsanj Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 Urm, could someone please tell me what the difference is between mk1, mk2 ect.Ive got (nearly, going to get tomorrow) a T plate 1999 galxay ghia and i dont know what mk it is......... Also, on my old car, (sharan, 96 p reg) the manual said that if you press the lock button on the remote control, all the windows would close. the problem is that that car didnt have R/C/L and my new one does but can sumone tell me if opening/closing the windows is possible with the remote control? Before I part with my money are there any final checks I should do? it is an auto so its quite rare and its only done 65K..... Quote
mumof4 Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 The difference that i physically see is the front of the car..i have no idea if it is different under the bonnet. As for being rare..most of em on here have an auto...so i dont know if your particular car is rare. A T reg is a mk 1.....(i think) I f you have global closing , you can open/close windows with key. By the way..welcome to the forum. :P Quote
sanjsanj Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 Do you mean glodal closing with the key fully turned, or global closing with the remote button pressed? Also if anyone can tell me last minute checks before I buy it then I would be grateful.By the way what is the difference between a Ghia and a Ghia X (T reg, 1999) Quote
mumof4 Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 with the key in the lock..ive never tried it with just pressing the button on the fob  As for checks...someone better than i can tell you those. Quote
