gerrypm Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 I have owned my Galaxy, for about 2 months and have my share of problems.Mainly electrical, but nothing compared to some of the members in the forum. Why then do people actually want to own one ??? My wife has a Nissan Almera, and nothing goes wrong with that car, it fly's past all the services and MOT's. So why own a Galaxy ??? Well, when I drive the Nissan, I can't wait to drive the Galaxy, there is no comparison. The way it handles itself, and the comfortable driving position. We can stop hand have picnic without feeling cramped. The storage capacity is second to none.My youngest son play the cello, so the space is great. I could go on longer , but does anyone else think the same? Quote
mumof4 Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 Storage????did i miss something??is there some other little cubby ive missed??? I love my Gal...even more since i passed my test and could drive her without hubby looking over my shoulder.I like the height, the comfy seats, and i especially love the fact that with the music on in the front i cant hear the kids killing each other in the back seats! :D Plus...i can take her apart and make her better  Quote
Bigjeeze Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 I have two Galaxies - I have actually had three. The first one is a 1997 TD which has 133K miles now I have had it from new. The second one was a TDI Auto did 85K miles then changed it for the last one a 2001/2 TDi which now has 93K miles on the clock. If you add the miles up that's around 300K miles. In that time I have had 2 punctures, One breakdown. I have had my share of faults but none too bad. I have had the cars full of kids , rubbish, Bikes, Lawn Mowers, Washing Machines, Cookers, Fridges and all kinds of crap. They are comfortable economical and drive beautifully. Plus having them has lead me to this site which has been soooo helpful and not only has it saved me lots of moeny but I have a laugh as well. Thats why I own a Galaxy!! :( Quote
jkspoff Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 I have never driven such an easy mile eater, even the top end stuff doesn't compare. I drove one of the new S class Mercs the other day, 68k quids worth, it drove nicely and was quick but when I got back in the Gal it still seemed somehow superior and easier to drive. I thinks its down to the higher driving position and long wheel base. The only other car I've driven recently that I would love to own is the new Range Rover Sport, its a gem of car, and seems to do everything very very well, with bags of interior space. But unfortunately out of my price range by a large margin. :( Quote
Andrew T Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 I also own a ten year old Honda that utterly shames the Gal for quality and reliability, yet I find the Gal to useful to think of selling, and I love the commanding and comfortable driving driving position. Quote
talke31 Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 I own cause iv'e got four kids who i didn't want to grow up with huched shoulders from being squashed up in the back of the car and because i've just a car boot sale and once the seats are out the stuff you can get in the back could probably empty my shed. Quote
mumof4 Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Aha!!!..i did a car boot this morn aswelll.....forgot half the stuff i put to one side so the gal looked empty!!  still...made sum spondolies! ;) Quote

NikpV Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 by the way can somebody put the clock right on here please I assumed it was GMT  Quote

Guest MATT Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 why do i own a galaxy? its a good tow car - and is great for caravanningits can comfortably carry 7 adultsu can take out the seats, and have a very large bootfor what it is, its economicalits better than the fiat & pug effort, and nicer to the eye than the Renault.for an MPV the drive is fantasticoverall im happy with the quality and reliability, but i have had problemsit basically provides a great base for most activities we do (no smart comments!) gerrypm Posted May 14, 2006 Author Report Posted May 14, 2006 I'm glad that everyone, like me , enjoys driving their Galaxy. I never tried the car boot sale before, but reading the replies, has made me think. Our children are 15 and 22 and we have great deal of items we no longer use.I will keep my eye open for the next local car booty. Who knows we can declutter and make some money as well. Quote
Davetheref Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 I'm on my second Gal now and i just couldn't see myself driving a 'normal' car. I've only got 2 kids but just love the comfort and driving position. Whenever I drive my wife's Saxo I dont feel safe being that low down to the road. Quote
Masked Marauder Posted May 15, 2006 Report Posted May 15, 2006 Comfort, space, versatility, bags of torque and good MPG are just a few of the reasons. Even the kids love it and get all grumpy if I take them anywhere in our other car.... Quote

Dont get me wrong the bemmers superb, powerful, looks great and well built but I miss my Galaxy. It would do everything, looked great, great fuel consumption. In my Beemer I average 23 MPG, I used to average 45 in my gal !!! Quote
Davetheref Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 Blimey Andy.I can remember you leaving and the pi** taking you had to endure. Come back. Its not too late and you can still buy a Gal again. Quote
NikpV Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 God - Andy, I remember both you and I were waiting for NIPS at exactly the same time - same road A505 Leighton Buzzard way (different directions) That a long time ago    :D Quote
mumof4 Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 Showing your age now Nik!!   Quote
strouf Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 I 'll go for the same reasons , as most of the forum's members. Wish she was more fuel efficient though... By the way, how do you think tha Gal compares to the Previa ? Anybody owned/ drived one ? Quote

By the way, how do you think tha Gal compares to the Previa ? Anybody owned/ drived one ? No but I was stuck in traffic behind one that burst into flames. All they had left was a chassis and ash!! My mate has one with around 220k on the clock he loves it. I think the Gal is better looking. Quote
tim-spam Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 So far, the only problems I've had with mine have been very minor, and most caused by the 'spanner monkeys'. As for the diesels being more trouble than the petrol versions, I doubt it very much (in fact, I would guess that the diesel would be the more reliable of the two) - I would have to spend well over Quote
NikpV Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 by the way can somebody put the clock right on here please I assumed it was GMT :DI've just found a checkbox in board setting in control panel that may get rid of the discrepancy between the clocks :D Quote
