Guest saint Posted March 13, 2003 Report Posted March 13, 2003 Having only had our 2000 Galaxy 2.3 ghia for just over a week, we're still finding our way around all the goodies that have come with it. Whilst the air con and climate control appears to be working correctly, the display flashes for approx 15 seconds when you switch on the ignition, which the owners manual describes as a malfunction. I guess the previous owner had some sort of problem with the front blower option as this is now operated by a rocker switch fitted below the unit. The offshoot of this is that whilst you can adjust the blower for the rear of the car on the air con display, the front blower shows visible adjustment on the display but with no power effect. I am wondering whether the 15 second display flashing is caused by the fitting of the rocker switch and not an operational aircon/climate fault. Ford have told me that a replacement unit would cost approx Quote
pj_andrew Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 The only advice I can give is to say that our Air Con display doesn't flash for 15 seconds when you start the car. Sounds like your diagnosis is fair. If it just means you need to do the front blower manually, then is it worth getting properly fixed? Quote
Guest saint Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Spoke to the previous owner today, and he's told me that at the time of having a hands free phone kit installed some time ago, the installers managed to cause this problem. Despite lengthy arguments with them he was unable to get them to pay for the required repair and decided to fit the manual rocker switch that it has now got. As the blower works fine solely on full power via the rocker switch he believes that they caused damage to the "fan Controller" on the printed circuit board. Surely there must be someone or a company that can work on these boards rather than throwing away what otherwise is a perfectly good control unit in favour of a new one at approx Quote
Guest shackers Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Try These: http://www.intapart.com/index.htm One of the forum members suggested them earlier on in the year. I am sure they will have one and they are easy to fit.. Just e-mail them and Bob's your Uncle! [i haven't heard that saying for years]. If your not confident in fitting it yoursefl, get a local Mechanic to do it [not Ford]. I would suggest you take the battery terminal off first... hopefully you have your radio code or you'll have to get this also..... dependant on what part of the Country your in, a fellow Galaxy owner may be able to help.. I don't mind if your in my area.. hope this helps shackers Quote
Guest saint Posted March 17, 2003 Report Posted March 17, 2003 What is it with Ford main dealers? Correct me if I'm wrong. The Galaxy is a Ford model that is sold in the UK in large numbers. Why is it then that the large number of Ford dealers that I have tried locally and in the surrounding areas, all seem totally oblivious to the various parts that go to make up one! At long last I've found a local auto electrical man that seems to be the mutts nuts with regards to the electrical side of air conditioning. He has informed me that there are blower regulator modules complete with relays for the front and rear of the vehicle that are renowned for failing, whilst the main head unit is generally regarded to be very reliable. As it would seem to make sense to replace this item in favour of a mega expensive head unit, he approached the local Ford dealer armed with my registration and VIN number only to be told that they are unable to locate the part and relavent price. I, therefore, will have to travel approx 30 miles to his workshop on Saturday for him to obtain the relavant part number from the existing unit, and he will then go back to Fords on the following Monday to try and get one!! Are all main dealers this incompetent or do they just like to sell customers the most expensive option at the time of an enquiry? Pete Quote
Guest shackers Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 Ford and Air con have never been compatible. The ATC control unit Repair code is: Causal part: 33 988 defect code: 09 the Finis code being: 1 033 925 THEY CAN CHECK THE SYSTEM ERROR CODE with a, FDS 2000 A revised one should be in your vehicle though but we all know things go through the net. The above should of only been applicable to 96 Galaxy's but it is known for later models. I hope this helps, as i say Ford do have a diagnostic tool, weather they are trained to use it? Guest simon D Posted April 15, 2003 Report Posted April 15, 2003 Have you tried resetting the climate display? quite simple to do just pull the 5 amp fuse under the dash think its about number three top row.In doing this it should reset the system, if it stilll flashes after that you need a ford diagnostic to find the fault code hope this is of some help regards simon Quote
Guest saint Posted April 15, 2003 Report Posted April 15, 2003 Thanks I'll give that a go. Pete Quote
Nick Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Just my 2 cents worth, but when I lost all the gas from my A/C 2 things happened; the compressor would not run (low presure sensor I guess), and the dispay would flash for 15/20 seconds! Once the A/C was re-gassed the display returned to normal. Quote
