Guest garyfriend Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 Hi. My air bag light has suddenly come on with no obvious reason. Is there anything I can do to reset myself or is it another expensive trip to Ford? Anyone had this problem? Quote
Andrew T Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 It's always worth disconnecting the Battery for an hour or so (making sure you have your radio code first) failing that, see if any members are near you with VAG COM. It's also worth knowing that unfranchised Garages are getting hold of this technology. My local one charged Quote
Bigjeeze Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 I had this problem on my mark 1 - My nephew who was a Farod apprentice said this was a common failure and said the slip ring which goes under the steering wheel was probably knackered. I bought a new one fitted it and hey presto everything worked again. It tells you how to do it in the Haynes manual. Providing you do nothing stupid it is not too difficult. Quote
Masked Marauder Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 If you put your location in your personal information then perhaps someone with VAG-COM can help for the price of a beer or two. But we can't offer help if we don't know where you are. Quote
Guest garyfriend Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 Thanks for replies. I've included my area now - thanks for tips. Shame I'm not up your neck of the woods. Anybody else help, would be great. Thanks again Quote
Guest garyfriend Posted June 9, 2006 Report Posted June 9, 2006 Hiya all Finally managed to find a mobile company to come and have a look. Couldn't reset light as apparently clockspring needs replacing and they couldn't do it. Cost me Quote
Masked Marauder Posted June 9, 2006 Report Posted June 9, 2006 The clock spring is easy to change. You disconnect the battery, remove the air-bag, undo the steering wheel, remove the old clock-spring, put the new one on and put it all back together..... Quote

Thanks Masked M - unfortunately (whilst it sounds easy) I'm naff with cars and wouldn't risk the additional trouble and money its likely to cause! However, if you're ever down in my area - let me know - sounds like you could do the job probably for a fraction of the price!!! Need other bits and bobs doing - if anyone knows a one man (non rip off) set up in the Surrey area who knows something about our beloved Galaxy - PLEASE let me know!!! Thanks everyone. Quote
