cochapman Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 52 reg (Jan 2002) 1.9 TDi auto Galaxy Ghia Problems with my wife's Gal: turn key to start the car, stop for a moment to allow the glow plug light to go out, then on the start position. Nothing happens. Turn key back and try again, the engine runs for a couple of seconds if the key is held on the starter. Then dies. Consistenly, turn to start -nothing; back and try again, runs for 1-2 secs on starter then dies. I've tried moving the gear selector to/from P - N, no change. Have the brake light switch out (4pin version) [what a Bar Steward job that is :D] and cleaned and returned. Tried (successfully as far as I can tell) "reprogramming" the remote key. Now at a loss what to try next :D Nothing obvious...HELP NOW, my wife has just told me that my 4yo daughter managed to pull the key fob apart. I'm guessing as I've since reprogrammed the system this shouldn't be an issue. Any thoughts, please?!? If not, I'll have to call out Britiana Rescue tomorrow morning :D Quote
cochapman Posted May 10, 2006 Author Report Posted May 10, 2006 If I wasn't so p!ssed off, this would be funny... My wife just went out to try the spare key... The blipper locks and and unlocks the car (I assume this means the fob is correctly "programmed" into the car. If I use the key on the blipper to try and start the car, no joy as per my post above. If I use the NON-blipper "spare" key, car starts and runs with no problems. How can that be? How does the car "know" which key is being used to turn the ignition switch? :D :D Quote
NikpV Posted May 10, 2006 Report Posted May 10, 2006 yes - the PATS (immobilzer) is separate from the remote, daughter has probably lost the pats chip out of the key - remote would still work but car wouldn't start with it. You need a new chip and program (not remote part) to pats system. Two separate procedures for programming - one for remote and one for pats see the faq you want to try mkii pats programming in case the chip is there and has become corrupted (how I don't know) but worth a try providing you have 2 working keys - if not its off to the stealers :D Quote
Masked Marauder Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 Almost certainly a lost transponder chip from the key. Go to where your daughter pulled it apart and look for a little black rectangular chip. And again, my advice to EVERYONE is superglue the chip into the key! Quote
cochapman Posted May 11, 2006 Author Report Posted May 11, 2006 My wife has just phoned (before I had a chance to look here) and she'd been in to Purbeck Ford (next door to the children's school) and they suggested looking for the chip - sure enough she found it and now the key works fine. Thanks to MM and NV :D Quote
raymac Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 Ok can someone put me straight here please, i pick up my galaxy on sat , it has 1 programmed blip key and a ordinairy cut key, will the car start with the ordinairy non blip key or is it just a emergency back up for entrance if you lose the other key :D thanks :D Quote
Andrew T Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 The none remote key will start the car. And to reiterate MMs advice (which I wished I'd taken at the time) glue your chip in! our key fell to bits and we were very lucky to find the chip as it had fallen into long grass. Quote
NikpV Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 If you lose a key you will have to go to fords to have another one programmed, its worth getting another key cut and with your 2 keys program the third so if you lose a key you can always program another - it takes two keys to program another one :D Quote
mumof4 Posted May 11, 2006 Report Posted May 11, 2006 we've only got 2 keys.One remote one not. :D Quote
