The only things that don't irritate me are the fuel economy, mid forties, and the space inside.

Since buying the car two and half years ago It has needed the following.

New Clutch & Flywheel (Three times) - Reason cannot get first gear at slow speeds without crunch and biting point of clutch very near the floor.

New Gearbox - Reason as above but I assume the dealer needed a bit more warranty work.

Anti Roll Bar Drop Links - Replaced twice under warranty.

Air Con Compressor Fitted - Reason, noisy when switched on. Wish I hadn't had it done now because the air con does not work (no cold air) now 10 months later.

New plenum chamber cover - "Techician" broke the original when changing pollen filter.

New Battery - Reason - Fault code found on service - I'm not convinced.

In fitting battery the "Technician" disconnected my continuous live supply to towing electrics which wasted my time checking before I found the reason.

Throttle Valve & egr solenoid - Car stumbles when cold and "chirps" like a minor bird. Result - Still does.

Excessive Tyre Wear, Wipers rubbish, Heater Ineffective, Spare Wheel carrier what a joke!

In conclusion, the cars are poorly designed and made using parts not up to the job.

You don't seem best pleased then!!! :D :D

The secret is to find a car that has all the positives and none of the negatives - unfortunately only the Galaxy fits the bill!! :D

I've had a few problems but by & large it's been a good motor (all three of em!!)

whats wrong with the wipers then???

might have guessed you'd ask about those .... :D

whats wrong with the wipers then???

The front ones make a terrible racket and are only a few months old and well the rear one, that wipes approx. one third of the area it should. Again this was a brand new Bosch replacement.

I suppose I could always turn the radio up, but then again the kids in the back would still complain that they can't hear it.

That reminds me, the rear speakers are rubbish as well.

Front wipers need adjustment, wrong rear wiper blade fitted - simple. Most of the rest sounds to me like totally crap service and repair work by a crap service department.

How do you adjust front wipers. They are the aero design which just slide over the peg on the arm?

The rear one was an exact replacement.

Oh I didn't mention that the auxiliary heater failed when the car was 20 months old (car kept disappearing in a cloud of grey smoke) this was replaced under warranty. Guess what, the car is one month out of VAG warrranty and it has failed again. VAG will not pay for repair because the part has already been replaced and that was fifteen months ago.

By twisting the wiper arms so that there is no juddering either up or down - there is a special tool for this, but some rag (to protect the paint on the arms) and a pair of pliers does the job. Before I bought mine, I test drove at least 7, most in the rain, and the wipers were always spot on.

The rear wiper you have is clearly not the genuine article. My local VW agent sells the genuine blade for just over a fiver, and this works perfectly.

As I said before, crap dealer service is your biggest problem. Take the flywheel / clutch / gearbox problem as an example. If they had correctly diagnosed your problem (not exactly rocket science), got the parts, fitted them correctly and returned the car to you in perfect working order, you would probably have put the initial fault down to 'one of those things that can happen to any machine from time to time', and ended up a reasonably happy owner. As it is, it sounds to me like a catalogue of one incompetent cock-up after another.

I too am having problems with front wipers juddering. The blades are almost new but the arm of the blade seems to be pushing the blade too hard to the screen. Tim - Spam mentions twisting the wiper arms. Could you explain this a bit more please.

Also, my wiper arms at the bottom are scraping on the plastic screen mounting at the bottom - can this also be adjusted.

Any suggestions gratefully recieved.

I think he means that you carefully grip the wiper arm (using some suitable protection to prevent scratching) with a pair of pliers and twist a little to alter the angle of attack to make the arm sit properly on the screen. Done correctly this should stop the juddering. If the blade is hitting the plastic below the screen it may be because the spindle nut is not tight enough or has allowed the arm to slip - Try slackening off nut and moving the arm on the spindle enough to clear the plastic trim But be careful to ensure it doesn't foul the other arm.
