soptom Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 On every car I've owned there is 1 ltr difference between the min and max marks on the dipstick. You should wait a minimum of 3 minutes for the oil to settle after switching off before checking the dipstick though. It sounds like you are sure it's oil level and not oil pressure, in which case the dipstick doesn't lie whilst the light could be spurious. To remove the bulb and sell the car on because the oil level light is faulty is laughable and underhand to boot. Bigjeeze Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 At my last service I supplied the oil & filter and yet the prats managed to over fill the oil - They put in the whole 5 litres from a can of Millers PD. So I got a syringe and a bit of tubing and spend around an hour (I only had a 5ml syringe!!) sucking the oil out until I had the level correct. It has to come out mumof4 otherwise you will bugger up the Catalyser and that will fail it on the MOT. So get you down to boots and buy the biggest syringe they have and you then need some plastic tubing - you can get that from B&Q etc. Happy sucking!!! Quote
mumof4 Posted May 8, 2006 Author Report Posted May 8, 2006 Ill get sum tubeing tomorrow then ill suck away to my hearts content!! Quote
jkspoff Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 So without one of these mumof 4 is going for a straw. http://oilsucker.com/product.html That looks excellent, making changing oil regularly a doddle. No climbing about underneath taking off tray and undoing sump plugs etc, I want one ! Any idea how much they are ? Quote
bigdaddy Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 Does the oil level light not come on when its well below minimum (on the dipstick marks),,,,,,,,therefore I would suspect the oil level light switch to be faulty  Quote
