daz131 Posted May 5, 2006 Report Posted May 5, 2006 Hi first time here,can some-one tell me what the piston behind the brake pedal is for....about a week ago it started making a whistling noise now if i press the pedal it still whistles a bit. and when you let go you can hear air hissing out i had a little inspection and noticed a really thin black rubber ring(gasket) that looked like it had broken what is this. please tell me what it is and roughly how much to fix.....could i do it? Guest Nobbygezza Posted May 5, 2006 Report Posted May 5, 2006 The whistling/hissing noise is coming from your brake servo, this is the booster which means you need less effort to apply the brakes.Depending on how competent you are you can replace the servo yourself, the last one i changed was on a 97 1.9tdi and it involved removing the brake master cylinder, which means you have to bleed the braking system after. gregers Posted May 7, 2006 Report Posted May 7, 2006 daz before you part with your hard earned cash take it to fords and ask them if its missed any recalls,did it with mine and it had to have the master cylinder repalced FREE OF CHARGE :lol: worth asking in my book,hope this helps. regards gregers Quote
