gazza007 Posted September 13, 2003 Report Posted September 13, 2003 My front Pad warning has just come on. Can somebody tell me roughly how many miles I can do without risk to disks. I knew they needed doing. A friend of mine who is good with cars has agreed to do them, unfortunately car is with Bells Seat next week to hopefully & finally fix my air-con failures(See air con reliability thread) so will have to wait. I've decided to ask them for a written report on what they do with the air-con, it will also be interesting to see if they bring in an independant engineer as promised by the MD. Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted September 13, 2003 Report Posted September 13, 2003 Hundreds if not thousands of miles....depending on driving style. The warning comes on in plenty of time for you to arrange to get the pads changed. Quote
gazza007 Posted September 13, 2003 Author Report Posted September 13, 2003 Cheers SA, it will be interesting how the Circus at Hyde get on next week!!! Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted September 13, 2003 Report Posted September 13, 2003 Yeah, you may have seen my 14,000 mile update post....so about 6/7 weeks before next service. They can't help getting it wrong, can they. Until we find somewhere better, all we can do is hope and check. Parkings a bit tight in there too, do you think? Quote
gazza007 Posted September 13, 2003 Author Report Posted September 13, 2003 On one of my many visits when I came to collect the car it had been blocked in by a demo Ibiza and the salesman had gone home with the keys. took 6 of us about 30 mins with various shuffling of other cars before I could squeeze out.I'm going to be cheeky with them as I have a scratch on the rear bumper that I badly tried to touch up and ask them to have a look. Hopefully they may fix it for free like they did with the door dent. Once I'm finally satisfied with the air-con I'm going to use a VAG independant, W Connollys or J Delany's, they have always been reasonable when previous cars has been out of warranty and seem to care more. Guest SA Intruder Posted September 13, 2003 Report Posted September 13, 2003 Forget Delaney I know Wayne personally - good guy. Done very well for himself - he's only early thirties. That doesn't mean to say his guys are all good... Wayne spends a lot of time opening new w/shops nowadays. But certainly worth a try. You mean the one in Chestergate, near Pyramid? I just wish I could do it myself without killing Warranty. It aint hard. (Aircon notwithstanding) Quote
gazza007 Posted September 14, 2003 Author Report Posted September 14, 2003 Know him too & his business development manager Pete.Always took the Laguna when I had problems. Put some stuff up at work on noticeboard a few years ago and he got a good response. Probably take it there for first MOT.Anyway Bells tomorrow, keeping my fingers crossed this time. Will post results later this week in air-con thread.See you around Quote

gazza007 Posted September 20, 2003 Author Report Posted September 20, 2003 He's a good guy does various jobs for a few people at work.Unknown to me he was telling me that another colleague had bought a 2.8 Gal and nothing was working properly. He told me that he had been driving out of work to have a look at when he and hit a pot hole when the windows went down and the interior lights came on. I've shown him the site and pointed him to ECU footwell problems, he was very impressed. Quote
Guest Feanor Posted September 27, 2003 Report Posted September 27, 2003 I ran mine for around 2500 miles before changing them (on my 2001 V6), and they still had around 1mm of lining. Kwik Fit quoted Quote
NikpV Posted September 28, 2003 Report Posted September 28, 2003 SWMBO okayed Ford to change these during the 30k service, Why I asked her, she said bloke said they would last another another 5-7k. So why did you have them changed - cos we are going on holiday she said umm... They also quibbled about the warranty (needed a bush on front suspension + door switch) because previous service not done by Ford before we owned it (manual says has to be done to Ford spec and PREFERABLY by a Ford dealer) work was eventually done under warranty after phoning Fords (pads cost us). Got into the Gal on the following morning (6.50 saturday to take my daughter swimming !!!) up pops -Check brake pad light - luckily on our way back - so straight to the garage they put another set in although they could find nothing wrong. Picked car up 300 yards and up they pop again. Took car back monday - another set of pads - must be a bad batch sir. Happened every day that week they were sure sick of the sight of our Gal (garage is just down the road 2 minutes walk). They changed the pads 3 times in total the wiring and finally the Instrument module!! Picked car up - no fuel computer got back in time to catch the head? mechanic leaving for lunch which he then spent in the Gal re-programming. I hasten to add that Ford picked up the bill for all this - no quibbling about the warrantee now!!. We've had the 'check brake....' a couple of times since (4k down the road) and they do a lovely job of cleaning the wheel & blacking the tyres every time they check it out !! If they were a bit short of business when they suggested the pads needed changing I think they regret it now even if Ford paid for it!!Sorry for the long post Nik Quote
Ginettamad Posted March 25, 2011 Report Posted March 25, 2011 Any idea how to stop the Pad Warning light coming on?
