Towing With A 2.3 Petrol

Hi all been reading comments on this site for a while now but due to reasons unknown to me i have been unable to post etc ? Anyway i would like to ask if anyone has tried towing a caravan with a galaxy especially a 2.3 petrol ? if so how well can they tow and are there any issues/tips i should be aware of also has anyone tried to gas a galaxy again any probs/issues ?

p.s Having come from the volvo scene and t5 at that i am finding the galaxy a little down on torque to say the least ! :blink:

I towed a 4 berth Bailey to Spain a couple of times with a MK1 2.3 Ghia manual with no problems. MPG suffered a bit, down to about 19 or 20, but that was with 4 up and quite well loaded. With a good stabiliser it should tow without too many problems. :blink: Andy.

Brilliant towcar - very stable and plenty of torque, but mine is a diesel.

Thanks for the input if i am being honest the torque of the 2.3 petrol was my biggest concern having towed with big volvos before this galaxy is well down , basically unsure just how big a caravan it can handle without totally killing it.The diesel version i agree would be more suitable however i'm stuck with this for now.It would be interesting to know what type of van and weight others have managed to tow with this size engine that is if anyone else has given it a go ........... :rolleyes:

Slightly off Topic, but I towed a Friends broken down Discovery for a couple of miles recently, must be 2 tonnes at least and was amazed at how well the 2.3 coped.

I understand Land Rover called it the Discovery because you Discover a new fault every day.

Although the 2.3 is well down on torque compared with the diesel. I would have thought it would still make a very good towcar - you'll just have to rev it a bit more.

My vans about 1250 kg all up my Gal pulls great although i did come from a Picasso and that was pants <_<
