strouf Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 I always thought this could not be done ...But , just seen a brochure of "Lumar" and they include prices for the front widscreen ! What do you think ? It's very tempting cause the summer is really hot down here !!! Quote
familyman Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006  IN england NO -might have different rules in greece! Quote
strouf Posted April 30, 2006 Author Report Posted April 30, 2006 Apart from it being legal or not , why would someone not do it ? Quote
Steve S. Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 Can't see it making much difference to your heat problem as a metal box in the sun is going to be absorbing a hell of a lot. Don't dark colours absorb more heat anyway?Save your money and buy a darker shade of sunglasses! Steve S. Quote
strouf Posted April 30, 2006 Author Report Posted April 30, 2006 Well, buying a pair of glasses is a solution, but...those tinting films don't do the trick by their colour. actually there's a little difference in efficiency between the darkest and the lighest one. They have an anti UV layer and even the "clear" one DOES work ! So I thought making this big glass surface in front of me, more heat ressistant would be worth spending some money. Still I wonder. It's not against the law here , but is it safe? Can you think of a reason why it's against the rules in U.K ? Quote
burundi Posted May 3, 2006 Report Posted May 3, 2006 All down to safe levels of visibility, uk.gov have decided that with the dim weather and dark nights in winter that it is unsafe to have any level of tint over 25% on your front and side windows (front sides, not rear sides), this means that 75% of light must be allowed to pass through the glass. As Strouf says the major factor is the films UV blocking abilities, not the tint level. Tints are there to make the car look good, provide privacy and where legal, to reduce the glare of the sun but they do little to prevent the heat of the sun. See here for more info I am getting my Sharan tinted this month as I have no air con. I am going for the scond darkest Lumar film on the rear 5 windows and the lightest on the fronts. It will make the fronts technically illegal but with the bus having so much glass it shouldn't be too obvious, also getting sun strip across the top of the windscreen. Quote
