wazza Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Silly question I know, but has anyone carried 2.4m lengths of timber decking in their galaxy. I have to pick some up tonight and do not want a wasted journey. Sorry but car is at home and I am at work? Quote
Masked Marauder Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Well the load space with the seats out is 2.1 metres if that is any help, so not much sticking out. Quote
Guest rob W Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 I carry timber all the time it will fit between the seats or just fold the rear seats down and recline the passenger seat. Amazing what you can get in galaxy's if you try Ive had a motorbike in mine!Ive used it as a van since new and carried all kinds of stuff in it when i was doing my self build house.Rob Quote
wazza Posted April 28, 2006 Author Report Posted April 28, 2006 Thanks for the quick responses, I will try my luck and take the galaxy Quote
Davetheref Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Careful you do not have to force the tailgate shut on the timber. I did a couple of years ago and it was just pressing against the front windscreen and on the journey home, I suspect the heating caused the timber to expand and my windscreen cracked. Quote
Dave-G Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 I've carried a 3 metre kitchen worktop in mine - and 3 metre lengths of wood. Just bung a towel on the dash board and fold your seats (without the head rests) to form a straight line of support to the rear of the car. And also put a towel in front of it in case you brake sharply. Unless yer built like a brick outhouse you'd need a bit of help getting it in and out though. Quote
teresa Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 :P well i had a wooden double bed in mine if that helps :D it was in pieces but matress fitted fine  :D :P  Quote
NikpV Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 often do that by folding near side rear seats down and swivelling the passenger seat with a blanket over it, with the center row middle seat up it stops the wood shifting and you still have room for 3 passengers !!! Quote

Now I can see a use for the swivelling front seats  Quote
galaxy_1.9TD_Zetec Posted April 29, 2006 Report Posted April 29, 2006 Carried 3.6m lentghs of fencing yesterday, previously carried 4.2m lengths too. Does stick out the back a touch, but only going for 10 miles.. Quote
ALARM MAN Posted April 29, 2006 Report Posted April 29, 2006 Had the Mother-in-law in yesterday so if she fits the timber will :( Quote
Justice Posted April 29, 2006 Report Posted April 29, 2006 I had a nice blonde in mine. Quote
Ogben Schmutzel Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 With all the seats out and the driver and passenger seat pushed forward a bit more than was comfortable I got a 3 seat sofa in and managed to close the tailgate! Couldn't get the sofa into the lounge but that's another story!! Cheers.Oggy. Quote
NikpV Posted May 12, 2006 Report Posted May 12, 2006 looking to get 6 chairs, dining table(1.8m) and sideboard in next weekend as an ebay purchase - going to be tight but we'll see Quote
Guest Cepheus Posted May 13, 2006 Report Posted May 13, 2006 I managed to get an extending dining table, 4 chairs and 2 carver chairs in a Volvo 850 Estate (along with me the missus and 2 year old daughter!) so you should be fine!!! Quote
Ogben Schmutzel Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Best of luck!! Take plenty of sheets or something for padding and some decent rope or whatever it is that removal firms uses to stop it sliding about. Regards.Oggy. Quote

Guest kenji4444 Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 ;) 3.1m lengths of timber will go in just fine, provided the full 'bunch' will go over passenger seat and into foot well. Tailgate then just shuts without touching timber ends. 3.3m WON'T (believe or not...they need 20cm cut off to go in!! which is just a fact I know 'cos I had to take the saw to some 3.3m bits!). You can stick 'em out the front pass. window...it's real fun trying to punt cyclists off with 'em...it's a bit like up-to-date jousting!!!! ken   Quote
Ogben Schmutzel Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 I loved that advert where you saw the bloke gently closing the tailgate of his estate. With the last gentle push the rear window shatters. Can anyone remember what that was for? Cheers.Oggy. Quote
mumof4 Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 Hubby reckons it was for a car..but cant remember which one! Quote
katman Posted May 16, 2006 Report Posted May 16, 2006 Hubby reckons it was for a car..but cant remember which one! Thats the trouble with adverts, the ad agency gets so clever that you cant remember what the product was even if you remember the advert. Seems to defeat the point of the advert to me !! Quote
Bigjeeze Posted May 17, 2006 Report Posted May 17, 2006 Hubby reckons it was for a car..but cant remember which one! Thats the trouble with adverts, the ad agency gets so clever that you cant remember what the product was even if you remember the advert. Seems to defeat the point of the advert to me !! I don't know though - I reckon there are too many ads on the box and like you I never seem to take in the product for watching the ad. At least it keeps someone in BMW's & croissants!. :P I was recently in the US the bloody ads there are on so often they drive you nuts!! It isn't worth watching the telly there !! Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted May 19, 2006 Report Posted May 19, 2006 today i got a 330 cm (3.3 meter) box in ours (well, a caravan porch thing, that was in a box!) fold the rear most seats down, and then the two to the left, in the middle row, and the front passenger seat moved forward, back rest as far back as possible, remove head rest, and place pillow on dash. place whatever it is you are carrying diagonally across the car, and you can fit in a length of up to 330 cm, and i had a small gap between, it and the windscreen. is also wise to place summet soft at each end of the item you are carrying, so you dont damage the car. also remember things expand when they get warm!
