Mikef Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 HI Can anyone recommend a good bike carrying system for the Galaxy? I'm not keen on a roof based one, seems too difficult for a single person to manage....but I've never really stopped and understood how the ones based on the back door actually grip to the car, and how you plug into the electric system if you need a backboard.. cheers mikef Quote
NikpV Posted April 26, 2006 Report Posted April 26, 2006 have asked before Earlier thread now looking at altera from the roofbox company Quote
Mikef Posted April 26, 2006 Author Report Posted April 26, 2006 Thanks, I'll follow up those links. It seems a choice between high mounted ones which could cause height problems at car parks or low ones, in which case I need a lighting board. Does anyone have experience of fitting a lighting board to the Galaxy? cheers mikef Quote
Mikef Posted April 26, 2006 Author Report Posted April 26, 2006 Looking round roofbox.co.uk, I dont think there are any 'low mounting' racks that fit the Galaxy that can carry 4 bikes.... hmm mikef Quote
galaxybox Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 I have just bought a Thule EUROCLASSIC PRO 903 cycle carrier (and 4th Bike adapter) which fits on my Galaxy towbar and looks extremely neat. Takes less than five minutes to load up with 4 bikes and away. I have just bought mine from "Faster Online" which was the cheapest I could find and fast service. Have a look here http://www.fasteronline.co.uk/Thule-towbar...4eff84b4419dcd8Check out the company name on ebay as they have an ebay shop and I got mine Quote
the bus Posted April 27, 2006 Report Posted April 27, 2006 I have no idea how you add pictures, otherwise I would post a picture of my cycle carrier carrying three bikes. In total it can carry four but the picture only shows three. In essence the overall height without bikes is 1.88m and with bikes the overall height is 2.2 m. In my experience the bike rack poses no problem during everyday use (with or without the bikes), and the rack is easy to use. The best bit is the fact that the bikes clear the number plate and the lights so no lighting board is required. A recent trip to Holland involved taking four bikes via the Channel Tunnel, and it did not cost any extra as an Quote

Mikef Posted April 28, 2006 Author Report Posted April 28, 2006 Thanks for the replies all, I'll follow up on those links later.. I dont have a towbar fitted, so I guess that will limit the choices I have... cheers mikef Quote
the bus Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Thanks for the info on adding pictures :-) Quote
the bus Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Sorry for adding one picture at a time. Quote
the bus Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 This picture shows the bike rack in the closed position and as you can see it doesn Quote
the bus Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 This image shows the rack open ready for use, the height of the Galaxy is entirely dependant on the height of the biggest bike Quote
Mikef Posted April 30, 2006 Author Report Posted April 30, 2006 Thanks for the pics!! That seems the one to get for 4 bikes... How easy is it to put on/take off? I'd only be using it now and then, odd weekends and holidays...and I guess it restricts your rear view quite a bit? cheers mikef Quote
NikpV Posted April 30, 2006 Report Posted April 30, 2006 and I guess it restricts your rear view quite a bit I find that with headrest screens, 6 seats in and a buggy in the back the views not exactly panoramic, generally I now use the door mirrors, the shock of looking in the rear view mirror and seeing the MIL's face soon makes a pleasure out of a necessity :D :D only problem is the missus and her newspaper or heavens forbid the map tends to obstruct the view of the lefthand door mirror :D :D Quote
