Hi there

I have a 9 year old Ford Galaxy which just failed its UK MOT test because the ABS warning light in the dashboard doesn't come on. It also doesn't light when the ignition is first switched on and all the others light in test mode.

Does this mean that a bulb in the dash is gone. Where is the sensor which tells this to come on?.

I have removed the dash panel and there doesn't seem to be a bulb on the back

which lines up with the ABS symbol. Do I need to take the dash assembly aprt to get inside or is one of the other bulbs (not in alignment with the symbol the culprit?

I was not even aware that my car had ABS anyway so is there a simple way to tell. If it doesn't have abs then the light would not work anyway.

regards

Can you give us a little more info as to the year model and origin of the Galaxy as the spec is different for coutries and years.

It is possible that you do not have ABS.

Its registered and remains in the UK and it is a N reg 96-97 I believe.

Petrol 2.0 litre GLX model. It does have a ABS pump fitted and the slotted

disks on the wheel assembly so it must have ABS although there is no sign of

it working. I've been trying to hunt down where the fuse to it is sited so that I can check it. Can't find it though.

The car did pass MOT test on brakes though I dont think it needs the ABS for that.

I'm hoping its as simple as the fuse (when I can find it.

any idea where the abs systems fuse is?

Clicky

My similarly aged Galaxy also failed on this point. In my case it turned out to be a loose connection into the instrument cluster which I managed to fudge by taping the connector in place.

I dont know about yours,,,but my gal is a late 98 model and the ABS light is actually a LED not a bulb,,,,,,,,I have the same problem,,,,,no ABS light,,,,ABS is fitted,,,VAG-COM tells me the NSF senser is faulty,,,,but if the ABS was faulty why no light on???????????????

Lots of people disconect the ABS light when there is a fault either by removing the bulb or cutting the wire, more so if they want to sell the car and the first time you are aware is MOT time ,as said before it could be a loose conection or bulb blown.

I know this is not the right thing to do but you can use the power from the low fuel warning as that comes on then gose off in the same way as the ABS (I did this on my Transit van)to get it through the MOT after the mot you can sort it out properly.

hello again, I took the dash apart and it is indeed an LED. I checked th led and is working so I am still puzzled and I have to get it back for retest in 3 hrs.....

still think that there may be no power as ABS has never worked it the few months Ive had it.
