tomy Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 Although I have no problem selecting gears , maybe first and reverse are hard when the engine is cold, there seems to be a lot of play in neutral from side to side as if it is worn , is there an easy fix to replace the worn parts in the gear selector part or will it be inside the gearbox ????? :( Quote

Guest bluesbrother Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 Have had and resolved this problem myself a short while ago.The plastic ball at the base of the gearlever wears(check for white powder/bits of plastic)Purchased the relavant three parts from VW dealer who were cheaper than Ford and the whole job took about an hour ish.No need for a ramp or to get underneath or in the engine bay all done in car.Gearchange transformed now . :) Quote
Bigjeeze Posted May 4, 2006 Report Posted May 4, 2006 Hi Bluesbrother I have the same issue on my wifes Gal (1997 MK1) - could you give me the part numbers of the bits you changed please. I have already replaced the cables but as you say the gearchange works fine but it does all flap about a bit!! Cheers BJ Quote
