NikpV Posted April 22, 2006 Report Posted April 22, 2006 Started car this morning and put into reverse - long high pitched beep from rear and flashing parking sensor switch, tried switching engine off and on, cleaned sensors - still didn't work. Parked up later and while missus and the kids were shopping I had a fiddle (with the parking sensors) sometimes got the high pictched beep other times - nothing but they didn't work. Pressing on one sensor always brought up the beep so I assumed that this one was borked - (ah ha I hope MO4 has found where hubby has hid her spare sensors) Later on, putting the car into reverse and lo and behold they worked fine - and did so for the rest of the day except on one occasion what gives here??? Only pattern here was that the particular sensor was in full sun when it didn.t work!!! Are these ultrasonic of infra red based, can the sensor fail in that way and its on the way out? Ive checked passenger underseat compartment - dry, wiring this morning was dry, i've also lloked at Frauds diagnostic procedures 1) clean sensors2) Check foglamp operation  :P :D :D can't check for DTc - No Vag-com Any ideas or info here (can't detect ticking in any - but at 47 (and married) my hearing is a tad less acute than it used to be.. :D :D Quote
galaxy_1.9TD_Zetec Posted April 22, 2006 Report Posted April 22, 2006 Hi NikPV, If you look back at the stream of replies to my parking sensor query, you will see an entry from GenePaul - he says (and is right) that if you put a finget on the parking sensors you will feel a high frequency clicking feeling. I found 7 of 8 of mine to be giving this clicking. Let me know if you get anywhere with it. I agree with you - in hoping that MO4 finds the sensors (looks like bids will be coming in for them !!) NikpV Posted April 23, 2006 Author Report Posted April 23, 2006 Just had a go with 'feeling' the sensors but I can't detect a thing - got the error bleep first go - after that turning on/off they seemed to work ok :( - I hate intermittent problems. Is there more than one type of sensor ? Quote
johnb80 Posted April 23, 2006 Report Posted April 23, 2006 Is there more than one type of sensor ? Oh yes........ Working ones and broken ones :( Sorry - JB Quote

NikpV Posted May 14, 2006 Author Report Posted May 14, 2006 Since posting originally they have been working fine - but today all of a sudden - I'm getting the high pitched beep again - twice - every other time since they've worked fine - any idea what can cause this - would a fault have been stored ? Quote
bigdaddy Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 Dont know about a fault being stored,,,,,but it could be water getting into a sensor,,,,,think MATT had this problem after going through a river crossing Quote
Guest MATT Posted May 14, 2006 Report Posted May 14, 2006 yeah - i had this problem, after 2 days everything worked fine again, could only assume water got in one of the sensors. not sure if fault codes are stored.if there's a loose connection to any of the sensors, you will get a fault tone.i too was surprised at Check fog lamp operation  just wait and see if they start working again in the next few days, if not, then start an investigation lol btw - they use ultrasound to detect things, no light spectrum comes into it. NikpV Posted May 23, 2006 Author Report Posted May 23, 2006 Well thanks to GoofyGolfer I have changed the sensor which when pressed gave the high pitched bleep, parking sensors work so well have to see if the intermittent problem reappears :23: Quote
