Guest pablo Posted April 19, 2006 Report Posted April 19, 2006 hi everyone, was away over Easter, towing my caravan. Came up a steep, 2 mile or so hill, to keep upto 50mph, it kicked down to 2nd, but got up fine, road levelled off, after about 1/2 mile, traffic jam. Stopped, after a minute, smoke came through the dash vents. The aircon was on full cold, it only happened for about 1-2 seconds, but there was a hell of alot, it filled the cabin briefly. Then nothing, everything was OK, i didn't even pull over to have a look. It hadn't happened before, and hasn't happened since, but has anyone any ideas what it could have been???? The engine and water temp were normal. Thanks Pablo Quote
Guest Cepheus Posted April 19, 2006 Report Posted April 19, 2006 was it definitely smoke or could it have been steam? Quote

Guest Cepheus Posted April 19, 2006 Report Posted April 19, 2006 Only time I've had that happen was when it was steam and the Heater Matrix was on it's way out. Sorry can't help any further  Quote
dave_m Posted April 19, 2006 Report Posted April 19, 2006 was it a strong horrible smell, unlike normal smoke Could be the clutch??? especially as you were towing Quote
Guest neil_wiles Posted April 19, 2006 Report Posted April 19, 2006 If it was a very dense acrid smoke I would check the alternator belt they have a habit of smoking when loose and slipping. Quote
Guest neil_wiles Posted April 19, 2006 Report Posted April 19, 2006 Just had a thought, does your fan motor still run on all four settings ? It may have been the fan ballast resistor. Quote
