Just had the old Gal serviced, not by an authorised dealer but by a buddy and the service warning is coming on telling me a service is needed in 1200 miles (had it done early due to a horrible noise coming from gearbox). Can someone explain how I can turn it off or does it have to go to Fraud?

1 Ensure ignition is switched off.

2 Press and hold the trip meter reset button whilst turning on ignition..

3 Hold trip reset until four dashes "----" appear in display and then release the trip button.

4 Turn off ignition.

Hope this helps.

I've always believed you had to open ans close the bonnet as part of the reset, did it work without ?

From what happens with mine, IIRC if you don't open and close the bonnet before pressing the reset button, the message just goes away temporarily, to return 1000 miles (or so) later.

never bother with the bonnet thing - certainly didn't come back within 2k miles

same here, no need for the bonnet to be opened.

sometimes need to do it once, twice or three times on mine. it depends on where it is in the service type loop. i.e. LN1 service, LN2 service or OIL if it's time for them all, then you need to repeat three times

According to the manual for my wife's 02 Alhambra

1. Ensure ignition is switched off.

2. Press and hold the trip meter reset button whilst turning on ignition.

3. Turn the MINUTE hand of the digital clock to the right

4. Turn off ignition. Indicator has been set to zero.

The service indicator cannot be completely set to zero. It can only be set to 15,000km

IIRC Fords handbook says nothing about the clock but then on Mk2's its an analogue clock, I wonder how much variation there is between gals,Als and Sharans?

I have a 2001 MkII Galaxy Ghia 2.3l - I tried all of the above to no avail... out of frustration I simply turned the key on while holding in the odo reset, then turned the key off WITHOUT releasing the odo reset button, then turned back on again and hey presto.... all clear!!

hope this helps someone out there!!

Assuming it was serviced at Frauds, its on the checklist to reset after service. Wonder what else they may have skipped?

How about on a 2008 Galaxy? You reset the trip milage by holding down the OK menu button on the steering wheel.

If I do that when turning the ignition on, it puts it into dashboard test mode, but doesnt reset the service indicator.
