roly1977 Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 right ive sorced some bio diesel http://www.biodieselfillingstations.co.uk/ but not sure how it works do i fill the tank half fill then top up with diesel or is it a % of 70 litres Quote
buford_t_justice Posted April 21, 2006 Report Posted April 21, 2006 I've tried using acetone for a while but with no noticeable increase in economy. See this link for more info: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/ind...64&m=347792&v=e Quote
Bigjeeze Posted April 21, 2006 Report Posted April 21, 2006 right ive sorced some bio diesel http://www.biodieselfillingstations.co.uk/ but not sure how it works do i fill the tank half fill then top up with diesel or is it a % of 70 litres I looked at this site - it all looks very good and possibly worth a try - But if you go for mail order it costs more than regular diesel but it doesn't give a price if you collect. If it isn't cheaper than regular and you have to go out of your way to get it - why bother? I know there are less emmissions of carbon but you are not going to convinvce people to use something that adds extra effort and cost. Quote
Masked Marauder Posted April 21, 2006 Report Posted April 21, 2006 Some strident environmentalists will happily make the effort or pay the prices. And it gives off as much CO2 as regular diesel, it is just that it is CO2 that has been absorbed from the atomosphere in the current time, so you are not releasing CO2 from fossil sources. Quote
JDF Posted April 21, 2006 Report Posted April 21, 2006 Here's a link to running veg oil in a diesel engine http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/index.html Its not ilegal, but you must pay duty of about Quote
cos 4x4 Posted April 21, 2006 Author Report Posted April 21, 2006 well i have been mixing cookoing oil and diesel using a 50/50 mix for every 12 litres of derv i use 12 litres of cooking oil have noticed no diference and it runs and starts fine saves me a couple of quid every week  Quote
_dg Posted April 22, 2006 Report Posted April 22, 2006 I've been using veg oil mixed with diesel 50/50 since late last summer, not in the galaxy, but my other car. I stopped over the winter as it was difficult to start, but I have started again now and will go up to 70/30 if alls well. For piece of mind, I am applying to HMC&E to become a user of alternative fuel. This will mean declaring useage and paying the duty at the end of every month. But this relies on the user accurately declaring how much veg oil has been used. :D . But it covers you if you get stopped for having the chip shop aroma. As useage of veg oil becomes more widespread, the Police and C&E may become more interested in roadside checks That site listing bio-fuel filling stations is out of date. I travelled 10 mile to my nearest one and they said they stoped selling it a couple of years ago due to no demand. If you want to use proper bio-diesel then you just fill up as normal at the pump, no mixing with normal diesel required as its already done. For newer cars, check with the warranty as bio-diesal or veg oil use may void any warranty. Quote
