mumble_bee Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 you can pray there was no film in the camera. I'm sure you know the old adage about single and double flashes tho. Quote
mumof4 Posted April 18, 2006 Author Report Posted April 18, 2006 cant say i saw any flashes but i know i was speeding..i was chaging from second to third...what does 1 or 2 flashes mean? Quote

Guest neil_wiles Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 4 weeks from passing a test could result in a ban and re-take of the test if three points is surpassed. Quote
mumof4 Posted April 18, 2006 Author Report Posted April 18, 2006 I was having to deal with 2 kids fighting in the car and one crying as she had fallen over. Quote
NikpV Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 I thought it was a ban and re-test if you get more than 6 points within the first 2 years :D please be more careful we don't want to have to go though that again do we  Quote
Guest Cepheus Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 ... one crying as she had fallen over. you really should make them sit down and belt up while in the car ....... stops mine from falling over while on the move :D Quote
Bigjeeze Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 It will all depend on the point at which they decide to prosecute. Where I am it's 5mph over you are safe - I got done doing 37 and so got sent a fine etc - but luckily I was given the option of doing a days training and so avoided the points. As you can imagine I have been very careful since then! Quote
Guest mattkaye Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 When i got pulled over for doing 41 in a 30!! I got let off!! :D I was told next time if there was a mobile unit that the camera was set to 36 MPH Mumof4 - If you were doing 35 you should be ok! lets hope so  Quote
NikpV Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 still waiting for the sanctimonius (sp) 'You deserve it' post from ......... Ducks below parapet :D Quote
gerrypm Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 You can try this web page if this helps. Did you know that every time your car goes past a speed camera, even1mph over the set limit it is registered and put on a database? You get a ticket only if you are way over the limit or, (this is the bitthat we didn't know) if you receive over 20 near misses, you will beclassed as a serial offender and get a ticket the next time you go justover thelimit. This is why you hear of people being done for 34mph in a 30 limit areawhilst others doing 39 do not. Following the Governments freedom of information act you can now getaccess to speed camera offences registered in the last 12 months. You can check what has been registered against your vehicle at thefollowing address http://www.e-database.co.uk You will be asked for a password but just click on the "need a password"Link and you will be given one for future use. If there is any data on your vehicle you can click on the camera windowto see a copy of the photograph. Quote
Wideboy Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 lol old joke but still quite good this is a good site for people if they think they wrongly got sent a speeding ticket or want to know how to contest it http://www.pepipoo.com/ Quote
gerrypm Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 Sorry couldn't resist it.Still, I had to use my own photograph for the picture !!! Quote
widu13 Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 The Government limit for speeding is 10% of the limit plus 2 mph ie 30 + 3 + 2= 35 mph meaning 36 and above and you are ticketable. Each force does it differently some allow even higher before prosecution. But if you do 31 mph outside a school in a 30 zone expect a ticket. Most "cameras" do not now use film. Some do not flash and also take a image from the front as well as others taking an image from the rear Being distracted from driving by children etc is a separate offence to speeding ie Careless driving (min 6 points and fine). Allowing someone else to take the rap for the ticket is called Perverting the Course of Justice and both parties can (and are!) sent to prision. Sorry to say, but if you've been distracted and doing 35 mph a get a ticket then tough. Hit a kid at 30 theres an 80% chance they'll live. At 35 mph it's an 80% chance they'll die. Is it harsh getting a ticket for doing 35? I don't think so. Quote
paulmpaciorek Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 Widu13 I'm with you on this one.......more so in a 30 zone where kids are more than likely lurking between parked vehicles !!!! Quote
mumof4 Posted April 18, 2006 Author Report Posted April 18, 2006 I agree widu...wasnt outside of a school...it was just outside a village and just before a national speed limit sign. Quote
Guest mattkaye Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 I agree that there should be a lower level of tolerance to drivers speeding in built up areas. It is, however, so very easy these days to stray over the 30MPH limit without realising - and you need to be watching the road rather than the speedometer. Todays cars are a lot quieter and quicker that they used to be.. it would be unfair to prosecute everyone travelling at 31MPH and would cause more dangerous drivers who are constantly watching the speedo rather than for the child running for the Ice-cream Van! Quote
mumof4 Posted April 18, 2006 Author Report Posted April 18, 2006 maybe its because im a new driver but i do find having to constantly watch the speedo and the road hard sometimes..i now know the sound the engine makes when im at 30..(also foot position) Quote
NikpV Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 height of gal above road caught out my missus when she first drove it - seems to be going slower than you are :P Quote

Is it harsh getting a ticket for doing 35? I don't think so. I agree there is no excuse for speeding and I also agree that the penalty should be applied even more stringently outside schools etc. Key statistics You are more likely to kill a pedestrian driving at 40mph than 30mph. Specifically, if you hit a pedestrian while driving at 20 mph, the pedestrian has a 95% chance of survival. If you hit an adult pedestrian while driving at 30mph, the survival chance is 80%. But if you hit a pedestrian while driving at 40mph, the pedestrian's chances of dying rises to 90%. (this lowers to 80% for a child). All that said you do have to allow some leeway for driver distraction - even if that distraction is another pedestrian - you cannot have a blanket offence without taking into account other affecting issues. You also have to take into account that no matter what care you take you cannot always account for the behaviour of children on the roads. We need to educate the road user and the pedestrian. Quote
dave_m Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 shouldn't think you will get a ticket at 35mph But you'll have to wait and see. I have always noticed that my GPS, regardless of which GPS Antenna and Software always indicates a speed roughly 4mph less than my speedometer. Which is the accurate one? The GPS or the Speedo?? Quote
Guest mattkaye Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 I find the same with my GPS. The speed is never identical always a few MPH slower than my speedo. I would assume with todays technology and the accuracy of GPS that this would be the accurate speed. Quote
NikpV Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 gps but only at a constant speed since it averages over time - not instantaneous Quote
dave_m Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 Got to agree with a lot of the posts here regarding speeding. I have seen a Child get run over, the car wasn't breaking any speed limit yet the child was still seriously injured. If you decide to break the speed limits in whatever circumstances then you have to pay the penalty, Don't moan if you get caught................. Better Still SLOW DOWN  Quote
