just wait , was that 35 on your speedo IIRC if you were just under you may get away with it but if not and it was a 30 zone the 3points +

4 weeks from passing a test could result in a ban and re-take of the test if three points is surpassed.

I thought it was a ban and re-test if you get more than 6 points within the first 2 years :D please be more careful we don't want to have to go though that again do we

... one crying as she had fallen over.

you really should make them sit down and belt up while in the car ....... stops mine from falling over while on the move :D

It will all depend on the point at which they decide to prosecute. Where I am it's 5mph over you are safe - I got done doing 37 and so got sent a fine etc - but luckily I was given the option of doing a days training and so avoided the points. As you can imagine I have been very careful since then!

You can try this web page if this helps.

Did you know that every time your car goes past a speed camera, even

1mph over the set limit it is registered and put on a database?

You get a ticket only if you are way over the limit or, (this is the bit

that we didn't know) if you receive over 20 near misses, you will be

classed as a serial offender and get a ticket the next time you go just

over the

limit.

This is why you hear of people being done for 34mph in a 30 limit area

whilst others doing 39 do not.

Following the Governments freedom of information act you can now get

access to speed camera offences registered in the last 12 months.

You can check what has been registered against your vehicle at the

following address

http://www.e-database.co.uk

You will be asked for a password but just click on the "need a password"

Link and you will be given one for future use.

If there is any data on your vehicle you can click on the camera window

to see a copy of the photograph.

The Government limit for speeding is 10% of the limit plus 2 mph ie 30 + 3 + 2= 35 mph meaning 36 and above and you are ticketable. Each force does it differently some allow even higher before prosecution. But if you do 31 mph outside a school in a 30 zone expect a ticket.

Most "cameras" do not now use film. Some do not flash and also take a image from the front as well as others taking an image from the rear

Being distracted from driving by children etc is a separate offence to speeding ie Careless driving (min 6 points and fine). Allowing someone else to take the rap for the ticket is called Perverting the Course of Justice and both parties can (and are!) sent to prision.

Sorry to say, but if you've been distracted and doing 35 mph a get a ticket then tough. Hit a kid at 30 theres an 80% chance they'll live. At 35 mph it's an 80% chance they'll die.

Is it harsh getting a ticket for doing 35? I don't think so.

I agree that there should be a lower level of tolerance to drivers speeding in built up areas.

It is, however, so very easy these days to stray over the 30MPH limit without realising - and you need to be watching the road rather than the speedometer.

Todays cars are a lot quieter and quicker that they used to be.. it would be unfair to prosecute everyone travelling at 31MPH and would cause more dangerous drivers who are constantly watching the speedo rather than for the child running for the Ice-cream Van!

maybe its because im a new driver but i do find having to constantly watch the speedo and the road hard sometimes..i now know the sound the engine makes when im at 30..(also foot position)

height of gal above road caught out my missus when she first drove it - seems to be going slower than you are :P

I agree there is no excuse for speeding and I also agree that the penalty should be applied even more stringently outside schools etc.

Key statistics

You are more likely to kill a pedestrian driving at 40mph than 30mph.

Specifically, if you hit a pedestrian while driving at 20 mph, the pedestrian has a 95% chance of survival.

If you hit an adult pedestrian while driving at 30mph, the survival chance is 80%. But if you hit a pedestrian while driving at 40mph, the pedestrian's chances of dying rises to 90%. (this lowers to 80% for a child).

All that said you do have to allow some leeway for driver distraction - even if that distraction is another pedestrian - you cannot have a blanket offence without taking into account other affecting issues.

You also have to take into account that no matter what care you take you cannot always account for the behaviour of children on the roads. We need to educate the road user and the pedestrian.

shouldn't think you will get a ticket at 35mph

But you'll have to wait and see.

I have always noticed that my GPS, regardless of which GPS Antenna and Software always indicates a speed roughly 4mph less than my speedometer.

Which is the accurate one? The GPS or the Speedo??

I find the same with my GPS. The speed is never identical always a few MPH slower than my speedo.

I would assume with todays technology and the accuracy of GPS that this would be the accurate speed.

gps but only at a constant speed since it averages over time - not instantaneous

Got to agree with a lot of the posts here regarding speeding.

I have seen a Child get run over, the car wasn't breaking any speed limit yet the child was still seriously injured.

If you decide to break the speed limits in whatever circumstances then you have to pay the penalty,

Don't moan if you get caught.................

Better Still SLOW DOWN
