mumof4 Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 Am not impressed today  .Driving down the road when i hear a loud clacking sound.i did an emergency stop as i thought summit had fallen off the car.Got out,had a look and i find a chunk of metal sticking out of the front right tyre..the new one i might add that we got fleeced for from the nameless garage.Hmm...didnt have a clue as to what to do as car was in centre of road and i didnt want to move it in case it made things worse. So i knocked on a door and a kind bloke came and had a looksie for me,knew it wasnt good when when he whistled and said "look at the size of that"!so a tyre change was in order. Not a good day.He said it should be repairable...if its not im really going to be annoyed. Ok..guess id better have a techy question....why do the garages put the nuts on so tight that you practically break your hand trying to get the nuts off??? dave_m Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 because they use the airtools to do them up, They even do locking wheelnuts up with them which then are so tight that you break the wheelnut key when you try and undo them. Quote
redneck01246 Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 better check wheel nuts after you have had tyre repaired-a few works vans have had wheels come off within a few days of repair. Quote
Masked Marauder Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 The question should be "Why does a Quote

dave_m Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 the spare wheel carier can be overhauled, you have to drill out the rivets but its quite easy to do. i got the replacement steel cable from B&Q 51p a metre. Mine is as good as new now, luckily i had a puncture at home so had all my tools and was able to get the spare off. Quote
