Hi all,

I've been reading very old discussions on how a faulty air mass meter can affect performance. My mate has a 1.9tdi 130 and I have a 115. We do exactly the same journey to work and used to get the same fuel figures (according to the computer). I went on hols last year and the turbo cut out. We took it to a dealer who couldn't find any fault codes but replaced a turbo actuator switch. Ever since then my fuel figures have been at least 10mpg less than my mates! My best used to be 53-55mpg, now its 43 at tops. Would a knackred air mass meter cause this does anyone know?

Would really appreciate your advice if possible please?

Hmm..have you noticed a lack of power at all???has the oomph gone out of the car???is it slow to accelerate??

since i put my new MAF on i must say that i have not checked my mpg..but when the old one was disconnectde,,we were getting about just over 40mpg.

Ill check mine out once i get the wiper linkage back on..

Marian.

ps..you could try disconnecting the MAF..see if there is a difference in running..if there is a difference then i would think its not your MAF..if no difference,,could be your MAF.

But..i may be wrong!(Go on..MM..you know more than me!!)

Hi!

no loss of power at all unless I've just got used to it. Just seems a marked difference in mpg since the turbo packed up on hols. (Little did I know, I just needed to turn the engine off and back on to reset it. Had no probs since).

The MAF can go slowly so you do get used to it untill suddenly you realise that there is something wrong,i dont know enough of anything else that can go wrong so i cant advise you that it could be something else..but i do know about MAFS!!

does the car feel different going up inclines/hills?does it struggle??ours now zips up them like a bat out of hell..before we had to crawl up in 2nd at 20mph!

Hi,

took the leads off the maf and there was a noticeable difference so I guess that's not the problem? Perhaps the others might know when everyone gets in from work, I've no idea what could affect the mpg by 10mpg like this. My mate and I even swapped cars for a journey to rule out driving style and he got the same low mpg figure I get. Thanks Marian. Let me know what mpg you get once you've fixed yor wipers?

Eddie

Have you tried changing the air filter it has a dramatic effect on the economy figures if it gets dirty and restricts the air flow.
