Hi everyone,

I have read the previuos threads on the electric water pump, (Run on pump ) but can any one explain when it should run ?.

Mine runs some times at not at other times. Can run after a short journey or a long journey or not at all.

I talked to one of the mechanics at my local fraud dealer who said that it was also controlled by the rear heater ( booster heater) controller as well as engine water temp.

TIS is no help here either !.

So can any one provide a description of how this electric pump works.

thanks,

Reefer.

Difficult one - I have been told the pump is to ensure even cooling of the head etc when the engine is off - and as such it comes on after any use for a while after you switch off. I can't quite see why it would have anything to do with the booster heater as it comes on in the summer as well.

I assume it could be linked but it doesn't seem obvious as to why.

Iam sure someone will know.

It is the same pump as the booster heater, but the booster heater has it's own if needed (only the parking heater type does) and it is located by the booster heater unit.

Had a quick look at elsawin - I am not sure but it does look like there is a relay controlling this pump.

Mine is fitted on the bulkead behind the cylinder head .

Don't need to buy a new pump if you are handy with a file and soldering iron....check the faq thread to replace the brushes for about a fiver!

If it's just the brushes that have gone just buy two new ones from a auto leccy for around a quid and spend a hour fiddling with some sand paper while the missus watches Eastenders. it works a treat.

Cheers Matt.
