Bigjeeze Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 oh....nuts. Oooh! you modified your post!! I hope you weren't offended - it's just that you word your posts so that they can be taken in all sorts of ways. Hope you are progressing well with the spindles etc. BJ Quote
mumof4 Posted April 10, 2006 Author Report Posted April 10, 2006 Nah not offended at all..had a chuckle once i realised what i had written!! My spindles are getting loads of wd40 at the mo till they loose. :o Quote
Rallim Posted April 10, 2006 Report Posted April 10, 2006 Are you going to disassemble the spindles? I found I could only loosen it so much with WD40, to do it properly required removing the spindles and cleaning them out - lots of dried up grease and corrosion inside. Then well greased before being put back together. Just be carefully removing the spindles and don't do what I did and break the casting.... Gordon Quote
mumof4 Posted April 11, 2006 Author Report Posted April 11, 2006 Its sat on my kitchen floor getting sqirted with wd40 so i can fee up the spindles a bit..one is moving a bit inside the shaft..the other is like me..stubborn and wont budge! Quote
mumof4 Posted April 11, 2006 Author Report Posted April 11, 2006 do the spindles come out on their own or do you need to undo a bolt??or do you slide the shaft off them???or...is there a way i dont know about? Quote
Rallim Posted April 11, 2006 Report Posted April 11, 2006 Have you removed the circlip at the top of the shaft? Mine wouldn't budge still so I resorted to brute force and hammers, and even then it took a bit of hammering. As long as you support the spindle and not support it on the metal tubes you shouldnt shear it. But be very careful... Gordon  Quote
mumof4 Posted April 11, 2006 Author Report Posted April 11, 2006 yup..they off..neil took em off for me.just the spindles to do once i figure em out  Quote
Bigjeeze Posted April 11, 2006 Report Posted April 11, 2006 You need to carefully remove the linkage from the bottom of the spindle so as to have something to turn the shaft with. Be careful though because the clips can break if you are clumsy. Once this is off you can try turning the spindle as see if the oil has released it. If it turns keep working it and try pulling the spindle out. Once put yopu can clean it and apply the grease etc before refitting. Quote
mumof4 Posted April 11, 2006 Author Report Posted April 11, 2006 Success with one!!think i took it off right..slid the shaft up and over the top of the spindle...there is a washer at the bottom of the spindle...sorry bout the quality of photo. Quote
mumof4 Posted April 12, 2006 Author Report Posted April 12, 2006 I cant remove the linkage from the bottom of the spindle that will not move..the one that is free had a bolt..the one that is stuck just has summit flat..ive tried..but the spindle will not move. any ideas please? as i need to get the car back on the road? Guest neil_wiles Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 Its the one about four posts ago called the stubborn one Big Hammer and an even bigger vice and a dirt great big wallop. Fix or F... Thats what I reckon. Quote
bigdaddy Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 Cheers neil,,,,,,i seen i after i posted,,,,,,and the pic u posted was spot on   I think its stuck because of all the crap within the spindle,,,,,,,,u might be better soaking it in a bucket of penatrating oil,,,,,then use ur hammer  u could use a piece of wood on the threads to protect them when u release ur fustrations with ur hammer Quote
bigdaddy Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 Do u mean this part that is circled,,,,,,,,,,,,,think this piece is what holds the spindle to the bracket Quote
mumof4 Posted April 12, 2006 Author Report Posted April 12, 2006 Ok..in case you havent got a clue what i mean..here is the underside of the other end. Quote
bigdaddy Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 OK,,,,,,got u now,,,,,,,,,,,,,mine is the same,,,,,nut one side ,,,no nut the other side,,,,,,just went out and checked,,,,,,a good squirt of wd40 and it should turn,,,,,,,, the bit u talking about is the main link to the motor that makes ur wipers move,,,,,,,,after a good look at mine i found someone as drilled through that part and fitted a nut and bolt  though i am not telling u to do that  Quote
mumof4 Posted April 12, 2006 Author Report Posted April 12, 2006 right..here what i mean..can take the spindle off one side..not other. Quote
