mumof4 Posted April 12, 2006 Author Report Posted April 12, 2006 sorry bigd..didnt read before i stuck the pic up Quote
Bigjeeze Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 You could also carefully try popping the joint at the spindle end- they have the ball & socket type plastic joints. But be careful. Â Once you have the joint removed you could try moving it using a pair of grips or large pliers until it frees off. Quote
bigdaddy Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 You could also carefully try popping the joint at the spindle end- they have the ball & socket type plastic joints. But be careful   Thats the bit on mine that was broke and someone drilled and fitted a nut an bolt Quote
mumof4 Posted April 12, 2006 Author Report Posted April 12, 2006 thanks..ill give it a try...ive gone thru a huge can of wd40 on this spindle Quote
bigdaddy Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 Is this correct,,,,,,,  NO1 is bolted to the car NO2 is where ur wiper arm is bolted NO3 is a ball and socket joint, which finally attaches to the motor   NO3 will not turn if NO2 is siezed,,,,,,,,,using ur hammer knock out NO2 and NO3 will become free As a last result,,,,,maybe u could take it to ur friendy engineering workshop,,,,and pay them some beer money ,,,,and get them to knock the spindle out Quote
mumof4 Posted April 12, 2006 Author Report Posted April 12, 2006 Yes you are right...but how am i going to get it to said friendly workshop?...i cant pop the ball..ive just broke a screwdriver in half trying Quote
bigdaddy Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 The ball socket joint is not ur problem,at the moment,,,,the removal of the spindle is,,,,,,,,,,,holding it one hand and hitting it with a hammer is not going to work,,,,,,,u need to get it supported on a lump of wood or a brick,,,,,then tap the spindle nut,,(((or place a piece of wood on the thread to protect the spindle thread)),,until it comes out   but again be carefull the ball and socket once damaged are not replaceable,,,,,,,,,the whole assembly will need to be purchased Quote
mumof4 Posted April 12, 2006 Author Report Posted April 12, 2006 Ok..spindle is free.....i took it to a garage who clamped it in a vice..took 10/15 mins of sweat blood and tears as i had to hold one end while he manipulated it after popping the ball thingy..the friction was enough to cause smoke from the shaft..but its out. He said that it was a wonder the wipers had worked at all as it was seized solid... Thanks everyone for your info and putting up with me gibbering on today. :o  Fun will start when it comes to putting it all back together in the car! :D :D :D Quote
bigdaddy Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 Hopefully once its all cleaned and greased it will work like new :D Quote
NikpV Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 .......at last - I was almost ready to drive down with my No3 Thor c/h and vice :D :D now the saga of reassembly ....... :D :o Quote

strouf Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 I just cant get the motor unplugged..ive squeezed the tabs, wiggled and pulled..but it wont budge. The fact that you can hold a hammer , a tin of grease and still type without messin your keyboard is a miracle !!!! :D Quote
Triple Trouble Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 The fact that you can hold a hammer , a tin of grease and still type without messin your keyboard is a miracle !!!!  Have you got that web-cam working then!!!!? :D Cheers, Chris Quote
mumof4 Posted April 12, 2006 Author Report Posted April 12, 2006 Right..spindles clean...greased..(think i put too much on as when i put the spindles in the shafts the stuff squirted every where.) I put copper grease on the spindles and in the shaft..once spindles in shaft and clips back on,i wiped away the excess grease. All that is left is reassembly!! :D  Ill do it tomorrow in daylight so i can take pics as i do each step. That way there are pics to show for any one else who does this delightful job! :D :o Quote
Guest vr6174bhp Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 the BIG question is now you've re-assembled all the linkage does it move freely? did you check the spindles spin easily in the shafts after you greased them? as for using copper slip to lube them I wouldnt have suggested using it! as it can dry up and go solid and leave you in the same predicament you are in now! Quote
mumof4 Posted April 12, 2006 Author Report Posted April 12, 2006 Yes i did check that they moved freely and yes they do. I used copper ease as that is what was recommended by MM and the guy in the shop i spoke to at motorsave. If i end up in the same predicament again..at least i will know how to rectify the problem and maybe try something else as a lube. bigdaddy Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 TRY K-Y GEL,,,,,,,,,,works for me every time :o :D Quote
Masked Marauder Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 as for using copper slip to lube them I wouldnt have suggested using it! as it can dry up and go solid and leave you in the same predicament you are in now! I can show you 10 year old copper grease that has not gone hard. The grease is its self only a carrier for the particles of copper. And it is the copper slipping against it's self that lubricates. mumof4 Posted April 14, 2006 Author Report Posted April 14, 2006 Right..chucking it down outside but today is the day i get the linkage and wipers back on the car..didnt do it yesterday as i was ill, better now though.ill try and take pics as i go along but i cant swear on the quality of them! Wish me luck as i think im gonna need it..(hmm...also need to get sum super glue to fix the plastic bit i broke..maybe sum type of rubber glue???who knows.!) :D :D Quote
