Hi, I have a 2000 Galaxy 1.9TD Zetec, just reading some of the postings and found others have had the same problem with the rear washer conenction coming undone under the passenger footwell ! I am sure I glued mine back in with superglue !

Anyway, my problem of the moment is the parking sensors, you dont know how much you rely on them until they are broken !

When I go into reverse, the rear ones bleep constantly for about 8 seconds then go quiet, with the switch at the front of the car flashing. The front ones do not give a whimper at all.

I was wondering where the control unit was for it and also wondered if a faulty snesor was unplugged, would the others work OK - does the system go to fault state if one is unplugged ? What is the wiring config for them ? I notice the 4 sensors are wired to a plug (only 6 connectors used) in the area behind the rear left light cluster. I guess one is +12V and one is return, and each of the other 4 are a sensor's output each ? Can I disconnect 1 or do I put one to 12V to test the other 3 ? How do I test if a sensor is gubbed ?

Any help much appreciated.

well, you cant unplug the sensors, as that causes a fault.

to find a broken sensor, i would have thought, you would need to buy a new one, and replace each one in turn, until you find the duff one, bit like Christmas lights.

i think the module is under the passenger seat, but not sure - from what ive read, i think they moved certain boxes about a bit??

dont suppose you've jet washed the car? or some other way of getting water into the sensors??

me and my dad drove through a stream, and the sensors went off on one for 1 or 2 days lol

A working sensor can be heard to "tick" when reverse is engaged, and check the loom at the N/S front wheelarchliner, mine had a broken wire here, and also in behind the grill. Good luck.

Hi,

Thanks for your information on this problem - has been very useful. Have found one of the rear sensors does not "click". Other 3 and the front four do click.

I am now going to get a replacement sensor, then I will know if that's been my only problem or not (is the control unit OK ??).

Thanks again,

Just got my 2003 Tdi (130) and although there is the bleep for 2-3 seconds when reverse is selected, no other bleeps are heard even when 1cm away from wall - BUT I do get the flashing light on the activate/deactivate switch on console indicating a problem. Is the sensor unit in the MKII still under passenger seat?

Apart from this, oh and a tempramental DVD system I am really delighted with the car!

BTW - These 2 problems would not be connected, could they?

Cheers,

Chris (triple Trouble) -

You appear to have the same fault as me with the parking sensors. I too have bleep for a few seconds and then the flashing light on the switch at the dashboard.

The advice from earlier about checking that they click when reverse is selected is a good one - I tried it with the car outside and the background noise from wind n kids runing about meant that I could not hear any clicking - had to go inside garage to hear it. Each sensor should click.

Let me know how you get on with this.

I am still trying to get a hold of a replacment sensor.

There appears to be two types of sensor in use on the galaxy range, one that looks like IR (really dark red glass) and another that looks like sonic (round tiny mesh effect). I don't believe you will hear any clicks from the dark red glass type, I certainly don't on mine and it is working.

On VAG-COM I can see each of the sensors and they individually show the distance to the nearest object they detect.

Thanks guys - I have the dark glass type sensor and cannot here anything other than the initial 2-3 sec bleep when reverse selected, certainly no clicking

As I cant believe that all the sensors have failed I am erring towards a dodgy sensor unit - if nothing obvious will be in to Fraudsters as it should be under the last dregs of the 3 year Ford warranty!

Checked the sensor unit and all seems connected Ok, PLUS carpet looks in pristine condition and dry so no water ingress. ALTHOUGH rear wash not squirting at present.......duh, fingers crossed the problem is in the boot

Thanks,

A near flawless description of my problem - Great advice about the clicking.

I now know that, by swoping sensors, all sensors are working and there is a wiring problem from the front o/s sensor.

any advice on solving this - is it just a case of dropping the bumper and following the wire to see any obvious damage, or is it possible to splice a wire from o/s to n/s. I imagine that this isn't too easy as the n/s loom will end up with a lot of wires.

The ticking is a great tip, mine haven't been working for some time and I'm yet to get my Vag-com, if you put your finger over them you can actually feel them ticking as well, have isolated the duff one and now on a quest to find a spare a non fraud prices!!

But I found a plug had been ripped off the nearside rear sensor - complete with part of the sensor itself.... temporarily pushed back on and working - till it gets wet.

Mumof4 - Sorry - I thought you were selling em. :D

The facelift (yr 2000 x-reg) galaxy zetec I had before my current ghia had them fitted, I'm curious how come yours don't have them? or is it a mk 1 that was left unsold for a while.

Those who have sourced the price from ford - anyone got the part numbers to find em elsewhere?

mumof4 - whats that your avatar is up too?
